Love in the Time of the Dead by Tera Shanley!!

Synopsis

Laney Landry has been fighting Deads alongside her brother and friends for three years. But she has a secret. She's immune to Dead bites and has to find the right people to trust with the information. Her team rallies around her to find a doctor who can extract a vaccine from Laney which could fight the virus that ended the world.

Sean Daniels leads a colony that provides her team with much needed shelter and supplies. He is obviously interested in Laney. The question is whether he's only intrigued by her as a source for the possible vaccine, or for something more. Tests for the cure might push her body beyond what it can endure, and just as she faces a ghost from her past, her longtime teammate Derek Mitchell hints at an interest in more than just her Dead slaying abilities.

Two honorable and alluring men - one colossal decision to make. Despite historically bad taste in men, can she rise above the chaos of the apocalypse and choose the one who deserves her heart? The right choice could mean the difference between surviving...and living.

Darra's Review:

I really like this book. As you may know, I have a sweet spot for zombies. This book is more of a realistic zombie story. Laney has a great crew that is trying to keep her safe so she can make it to a colony to test her and find out why she is immuned. I won't lie, I did cry at some points of the book. Which means it is good!
In this story there are a few guys that she has feelings for and she is trying to figure out what to do. Even during the darkest days, there is still a chance at love. BTW-the Ex boyfriend! UGH, that is all I can say without giving anything a way.
I was stressed reading this. The book was read in one day. It is like the Walking Dead. You can't help but keep reading what happens next. So unpredictable!
Like I said, I really liked the book. My rating for this book is a 4.6. FYI..that is really high.
So it is up on the must read! Keeps you interested till the last page!

Darra's Review:

Ahh, how I love Aieden. I loved Elixir because it was from his point of view. To show how he felt and what he saw when Alex was all Psycho Love Seth zombie. In the book it gives you much more detail to what the Gods are doing and their plans.
You see a lot of Apollo in this book and I like him and don't(but you will see why). Many of the Gods are now getting involved since this may become a war. And that would mean the demise of Alex and Seth.
I hate Seth. Sunny loves him. But some is not his fault. You have to read this book to get more background of what is to come in Sentinel. I reread Elixir and made me remember all the reasons why Aieden is the best(besides Daemon).
I am so excited to read Sentinel now that I have read Elixir again!
If I had to rate Elixir, it would be a 4.7. The series rate? We will see.

Trials by Sarah Biermann!!

Synopsis:

"They think Jeremy murdered her."

Drugs pushed them away...will murder bring them together?

Since losing the rock star love of her life, Harvard Law student Dylan Ackhart is doing the best she can to move on. Now in her third and final year, she's doing well in school and just landed her dream internship in Boston's District Attorney's office. She keeps away from the news so she doesn't hear about Jeremy Mason- about his frequent parties, new women, and apparent drug use.

But when the body of a young girl is found in his home, suddenly Dylan and Jeremy are thrust together in the most difficult and awkward of circumstances. Dylan is forced to choose between the only man she ever loved and the only dream she ever wanted. Will she leave everything behind and be with Jeremy? Or will Jeremy find himself in more trouble than she can help him out of?

Goodreads

Sunny's Review:

So this book picks up with Dylan having moved on from Jeremy. She was basically cut off by him and trying to make life work with Scott.  She is about to get an intern position with the prosecutors office and Jeremy is accused of murder and she is on the team to help build a case against him. Jeremy maintains his innocence and you see how Dylan struggles with dealing with her job and her feelings for the man that she still loves.

I personally love Scott and think he is AWESOME. I know I am supposed to be all about Jeremy and Dylan finding each other again but I just don't like it. There are a lot of things that Jeremy does in this book that annoys me. I do not want to spoil it for you so I won't tell you. I don't like the ethical issues that Dylan ignores either.

I do like this series in that it is not a cut and dry, black and white story. Even though I do not like the way that Dylan handles things I don't know if I was in the same position I would have done anything differently. I would like to think that I would but who knows.

I am giving this book 4.1 stars out of 5.  Make sure you read Tracks before you read Trials.

Excerpt:

I go through the rest of the day in a haze, purposely shutting my brain off to the point where I’m just barely able to function normally. I don’t want to even begin to process what happened in that questioning room. I’m kept busy by meeting all of my colleagues, learning the new paperwork and policies that need to be done in Homicide, as well as other things interns typically take care of. By the time I’m finally walking out of my building and towards my car, I’m so emotionally and mentally exhausted I feel like going home and falling into bed.

I take the back door again just in case but I’m relieved to see that the press has cleared from the front of the building. I see my little car far off in the distance and take my time walking towards it.

“Dylan,” I hear suddenly.

Oh, God…

I freeze in my tracks and swing myself around. I see his silver Honda stopped in the middle of my street. Jeremy’s staring out the window, his blonde hair shining in the sun and sunglasses reflecting my shocked face.

“Huh?” I mumble out.

“Get in,” he says. I stare at him like he’s crazy before I turn to continue walking towards my car.

“Dylan, get in the car,” I hear him say as his car inches to match my stride. His voice is low and demanding. It makes my heart lurch in my chest.

“Are you nuts?” I whisper out of the side of my mouth. “I can’t be seen with you.”

“You won’t be if you get in the fucking car.”

I sigh, my resolve wavering, but keep moving forward.

“Dylan, I swear to God I will get out and throw you in this car.”

Goddamnit.
I turn and run around the front of his car, opening the passenger door and flopping onto the seat. I barely get my door shut before he drives away.

Prayer for the Dead by Nicki Scalise!

Synopsis

This is the story about a girl who lived, died, and met a guy… in that order.
Is it possible to find true love and happiness, while condemned to purgatory until the end of days?
Olivia Brennan wasn’t eager to find out. Working for a division of Purgatory and Associates, her job consisted of one headache after another, caused by the impatient souls waiting to move onto eternal paradise. After a hard day at work, she was most content to stay home, watching reruns or reading a book. Aside from a few friends occasionally forcing socialization, her afterlife was nothing special.
That all changed the moment Drake walked into her life. He was handsome, charming, and had a sadness behind his eyes she could relate to. It seemed that Fate had finally brought her a kindred spirit…
But could Olivia move past her own dark regrets of the life she left behind or would falling for him demand the ultimate sacrifice—herself?

Sunny's Review:

This book was very interesting. I am Catholic so anything with Purgatory is going to pique my interest.  I thought it was interesting the way that Nicki described the world that Olivia was in. I like Olivia. She goes to work and does her job and is kind of a homebody. I don't like that she is kind of a doormat when it comes to her friend Portia but otherwise I loved the relationships she had with Tore and Devon.

I really liked Drake at first but then I hated him.  He is really douche-tastic in a lot of ways. I mean he obviously has a pattern of cheating and the fact that Olivia overlooks it annoys me. I feel like she should have made him work a lot harder for her in the beginning. I was also so hoping that she would hook up with Devon and throw Drake away.

I really liked this book and can't wait for more.  I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars. I like the world that Nicki created and there are some twists in this book that make it worth the read. Make sure you go get the book!!!

EXCERPT:

“You have a massage in one hour,” I remind her with a raised eyebrow. Her eyes slowly open and the smoky color in her blue eyes clears.
“Wha….”
I chuckle softly. It takes every ounce of self-control not to take her. How can one kiss turn both of so completely inside out like this?
“A massage. In one hour.” And then I smirk. “Unless you want me to take care of it for you.” I run my hands slowly down her throat, across her collar bone, and down her sides until I reach the edge of her short t-shirt that I want removed. Immediately. I play with the hem with my fingers and firmly grasp her thighs, squeezing the backs of them until my hands are cupping her perfect ass.
She jumps when I pinch each ass cheek, pushing me away. I throw my hands up innocently as she laughs just once. It’s the first smile I’ve gotten out of her since we stepped out of the plane. It’s progress and I’ll take it.
“You’re a tool.”
I place both hands on my hips, my feet shoulder-width apart, and watch her eyes fall to my erection that’s pressed so hard against my boxers I’m surprised it hasn’t popped out yet. When she’s looking, I wiggle my hips once. “We both know you like my tool.”
Her cheeks flush bright pink and she turns away, but she’s still smiling and laughing so I consider my work done for the morning.

Vampire in the Tropics by Jill Elaine Hughes!!!!

Blurb

A paranormal erotic novella.

Our heroine, known only as “Beloved,” has had it with vampires. Or so she thinks. After hightailing it out of frozen Poughkeepsie, New York for Mexico in an effort to escape both winter and the loser vampire ex-boyfriends she’s sick and tired of fending off, she finds something she never thought she’d encounter under the blazing tropical sun—a vampire god.

Enter Julio, an immortal Aztec god that blends elements of the Western vampire with the chupacabra. It’s lust at first sight when Beloved lays eyes on him in human form on a white-sanded Mexican beach, and despite all attempts to resist, she finds that at last she has found her destiny as his mate. Wild otherworldly sex ensues that takes them to a parallel universe where the power of the ancient Aztecs blends with modern bloodlust to create a new level of passion, and where Beloved finds a new role as the Chupacabra Queen.

Excerpt

I spent most of my teen and college years running with the vampire crowd, so I know whereof I speak. It was fun at first.  The vampires were all beautiful, and wore the best clothes, and threw the best parties, and got all the good drugs, and sometimes even flew in celebrity entertainers for the all-night shindigs they threw in the woods surrounding Poughkeepsie (that’s how I met Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian).  All the most popular kids at school were vampires.  They didn’t even try to hide who or what they were, either.  Once upon a time they had to keep their Undead natures a secret, but ever since Twilight came out, being a vampire was cool. And if you weren’t a vampire yourself, being able to say you hung out with vampires was the next best thing when it came to teenage social status.

And I milked my vampire friends for everything they were worth.  Or close to it—I didn’t let them take me over the line into Undeadness myself, of course.  Sure, I’d nick my wrist every now and then and collect some blood in a cup for them that they’d pass around at parties while the mortal kids drank beer and hooch, and sometimes I let them nibble on my neck a little, but that was the extent of it.   And that was good enough for the vampires for many years.

Six years, to be exact.  But starting last year, they wanted more from me than just a little blood and the occasional casual sex session. One of the added bonuses of having sex with vampires is there’s no chance of catching an STD or getting pregnant.
Unless, of course, you let them kiss you.

The sex was great for a long time.  Nothing fancy, no frills, but it got the job done. The vampires’ cocks were cold, but huge and hard, and they knew exactly what to do with them. They knew their way around a clit, too, and never failed to make me come, never once. And no matter how hot and heavy things got, I always stuck hard and fast to the no-kissing rule.  The vampires never seemed to mind that, though.

Until recently.

Something changed with the vampires about a year ago. They wanted me to become one with them.  As in, their vampire blood-lover. As in, the mother of an Undead-mortal hybrid.

As in, they wanted me to start kissing them when we fucked.  Tooth to tooth, fang to fang, tongue to scorching tongue.

I refused.

That’s when the trouble started.
