Darra's Review:

Great Book! I won't lie. I did read this in a couple of days. It is a different story from what I have read. Having dreams about Gareth her whole life sounds great to me! Each night Meadow meets him and has fallen in love with him. But the question for her is: Is he real? Or is he a figment of her imagination.
Oh, he is real. Gareth and Meadow do end up meeting by luck. Now she is stuck between choosing her family and their well being or living the rest of her life with her soul mate. Unfortunately, she has to choose. All I kept thinking was Please Stay With Gareth!! Meadow is suppose to marry another man that she does not love. But if she wants to keep her family safe, she has to be with her soon to be fiancé.
I did like Meadow(which is rare that I like the main character).Gareth, oh Gareth! You will love him. He is definitely Alpha male. And he loves Meadow like no other. She was always the one for him. If I was Meadow and he looked like the guy on the cover, I would be taking pictures all day long too!
It was fun reading this book and could not put it down. I can say that this was one of my favorite books I have read lately. One of those books that I will re-read!

I give Pictures of You a 4.7. Read the book. Give some love to Lynsie. It took a lot of hard work getting the book out!

Fix You by Beck Anderson

Synopsis:

When Kelly Reynolds’s husband died, he left her—the awkward, cautious one—to raise their two young boys. She’s pieced herself back together, barely. Now she takes refuge in her routine: running her kids around and running the trails near her Idaho home.

Two years after her husband’s death, a chance encounter on a run brings Andrew into her life. But Andrew is Andy Pettigrew, the Andy Pettigrew, famous actor. Kelly hates risk, and a love affair with Andrew is certainly tempting fate. She doesn’t fit into his Hollywood world. She doesn’t own a pair of Louboutins, and she couldn’t walk five paces in them if she did. Andrew oozes cool. She reeks of dork.

But despite this, they click. It may be inexplicable, but it works. However, it’s also becoming clear that Andrew struggles with the pressures of his fame. Kelly’s hold on a so-called normal life is already tenuous, and as much as she might want to indulge the fantasy, she doesn’t know how either of them is supposed to cope with stalkerazzi and tweet-happy fans with camera phones. She and Andrew both have secrets that seem impossible to keep.

Beck Anderson’s witty, engaging writing yields an emotional tale of love, loss, and all the little things that make up a life. In the end, what is it that really holds us together? Kelly must decide if love can fix two people who might be broken beyond repair.

Goodreads

The Footsteps I Follow: Authors I Admire

Since he figures somewhat prominently in Fix You, I have to go with Ernest Hemingway.  Many women find this to be odd, because he has a reputation for being quite the macho man/chauvinist/womanizer, but I find him to be very much obsessed in his writing with love and romance.  The Sun Also Rises is awesome and holds the record for most kick-ass, sarcastic last line in a book ever: “Isn’t it pretty to think so?”

One of the few things that the main character of Fix You, Kelly, and I do have in common is that we’ve both been in Hemingway’s house in Sun Valley.  I wasn’t sneaking in – I got a look around when I was attending a week-long seminar on Hemingway.  I actually stood at his stand-up desk where he wrote (he had a bad back, too).  I count myself lucky.

I admire Hemingway because he lived a big life, and I believe he tried very hard to consciously maximize his time here on earth.  If I have half the experiences he did, I think I’d be doing pretty well.  I’d skip the two plane crashes he survived, though!

About the Author:

Beck Anderson believes in the power of perfectly imperfect women and in the healing power of love. Her new novel, Fix You, grew out of those beliefs and the time to write afforded by the worst Thanksgiving blizzard she’s ever witnessed in West Yellowstone.

For Beck, the path to published novelist has taken lots of twists and turns, including a degree in anthropology, a stint as a ticket seller at a ski resort, a much-loved career as a high school English teacher, and a long tenure as a member of the best writing group ever, hands down.

Beck balances (clumsily at best) writing novels and screenplays, working full-time as an educator, mothering two pre-teen males, loving one post-40 husband, and making time to walk the foothills of Boise, Idaho, with Stefano DiMera Delfino Anderson, the suavest Chihuahua north of the border.

Scorched Treachery Blog Tour!!!

Scorched Treachery is the 3rd book in The Imdalind Series

Scorched Treachery Synopsis:

While Joclyn is trapped in the tormenting hell of Cail’s mind, the battle around her only continues to grow and spread.
*
Edmund has infiltrated the underground hallways of Prague, guiding the massacre that would end the lives of the last of the great magical race. In her attempts to stop him, Wynifred has been captured and her magic restrained. Chained up in the ancient dungeons of Prague, her fate is left in the hands of her father, who has tried to kill her before.
With Ryland’s screams and Sain’s fragmented sights as her only company, Wyn must rely on something that has been hidden deep inside of her for centuries to help them break free.
 *
Ilyan’s whole life has been building up to one purpose. Protect the Silnỳ. He knows what he must do, and he has no doubt in his ability to do so.
But when his father’s magic removes Joclyn’s mind from her body, he is left protecting the shell of the one person he loves. Desperate to find a way to break her free of her prison, he makes a choice. And that one choice changes everything.
Now, Ilyan finds himself bound to Joclyn in a way that he never knew to be possible. They say that blood is thicker than water, but Black Water burns, and Ilyan’s heart may not be strong enough to keep the water pumping through his veins and give the girl he loves back into his brother’s care.
Even if he can, it may not be safe to do so.

Make sure you read these books in the CORRECT ORDER.
1. Kiss of Fire
2. Eyes of Ember
3. Scorched Treachery

Kiss of Fire Synopsis:

Joclyn Despain has a scar. In fact, it is almost like a brand on her skin. She doesn’t know why it appeared on her neck, but she doesn’t want anyone to see it, including her best friend Ryland, who knows everything else about her. The scar is the reason she hides herself behind baggy clothes, and won’t let the idea of kissing Ryland enter her mind, no matter how much she wants to.
The scar is the reason she is being hunted.
If only she knew that she was.
If only she had known that the cursed stone her estranged father sent for her 16th birthday would trigger a change in her. Now, she is being stalked by a tall blonde man, and is miraculously throwing her high school bully ten feet in the air.
Joclyn attempts to find some answers and the courage to follow her heart. When Ryland finds her scar; but he knows what it means, and who will kill her because of it.

Eyes of Ember Synopsis:

Joclyn is in hiding, hunted by the man she still desperately loves. Ryland is gone, his mind erased; no memory of Joclyn remains, but Joclyn’s heart desperately begs her to hold out hope. Meanwhile the black-eyed monster that possesses him attempts to kill her over and over again.
If it wasn’t for Ilyan, Joclyn would be dead by now.

Ilyan, the man who once stalked her, is now Joclyn’s protector, the only person she has left. He protects Joclyn from the men who seek to end her life, and all the while, she is haunted by dreams where Ryland begs her to break the bond between them.

 Ilyan is there. Always there.

Ilyan trains and prepares her, teaching her everything she needs to know in the hope that one day she can avenge Ryland, if not protect herself from him.

And then, there is her father.

The man who has never been there is suddenly responsible for everything. And who he is has made Joclyn into something she never wanted to be:

 The Silnỳ.

Darra's Review:

This is the book you recommend to your friends. This book kept me interested from page one. The first two books were fantastic. When I started the third book, I was worried since it was from Wyn, Ilyan and Joclyn point of view. It was necessary with the situation everyone is in. You feel for all the characters. I did tear up a little for Wyn. Your heart will break with what she has lost and tortured by. I did not foresee how each person is entangled with past relationships and their family. Cail is who's brother?!

These people all have amazing powers. I can honestly say, they can kick 98% of other books that have characters with special powers. It makes Superman look subpar. The previous 2 books gives you an idea of who Jocyln is and who she is becoming. Now you get to find out what the other people do and what happened in the past 100 years of life. Plus you get to find out more about Jocyln's Dad. Oh, I can't help but talk about Ryland & Ilyan. Poor Ryland. You start to dislike him but you know deep down inside it is not the real Ryland. He is trying his best to stay away from what they are trying to make him...Joclyn's killer. And lastly Ilyan. My lord, I love him. How can one person love someone for so long!

The last sentence will make you yell FINALLY!

Great writing. Wonderful characters, unbelievable story. Can't wait for the next book.

I give this book a 4.6. The overall books(so far) gets a 4.7.
Read it so I have someone to talk about it with!

Just To Kick Off Football Season!!!!

So most of you may know that I am a HUGE Peyton Manning fan. I have followed most of his professional career and yes I realize that I live in Houston not Indianapolis. Since the NFL is starting the real season this week I thought I would sneek this review in (Don't tell Darra...she doesn't know...shhhhhh).

Basically, this book is written by Archie and Peyton Manning. Archie Manning has had an amazing life so far. I bought this book a couple of years ago and thought I was just going to be facinated by Peyton. I was really surprised that I was more interested in Archie's story. He grew up in Mississippi and played all sports. He also worked hard and when I say hard I mean in a brick yard hard! He played all sports...football, baseball, basketball.  He went to Ole Miss and played QB for them. He met his wife, married her and got drafted. Played for the New Saints (you know back in the day when they were the 'Aints).  I mean all the things that he saw, did and dealt with are truly amazing. I think that it would be awesome to just get to sit down with him one day and listen to his stories.

Peyton's part of the book is interesting too. Don't get me wrong...he has had an interesting life too but it is different from his fathers. Peyton talks about how he would go listen to all the old tapes of his dad playing college ball and could just picture everything (one of many reasons he is an AMAZING QB now???).  He talks about his brothers and what happened when Cooper got sick. He also talks about how he chose Tennessee and how everyone reacted. It goes through him getting drafted and making his deals with the Colts.

I hear people all the time talking about how they can't stand the Mannings and how they obviously think they are better than everyone. I don't really know how or why they came up with these comments.  When you read Archie's story you will see that he had to work ridiculously hard for everything he has in his life. The same with Peyton. He had an easier life than his father but seriously to be an NFL QB (I don't care who you are) you had to work and try and continue working so that someone younger, faster and stronger doesn't come after your spot. Its competitive and I don't think that there is a player out there that just walks in gets stuff handed to him (at least on the field).

Ok and being the TOTAL nerd that I am...I might have their children book too. I still have it on my desk in case there comes a day when one of the walks into my office and I get it signed (Yes I realize I am delusional).

So anyways now you know I am crazy. I love my Colts but I am not disappointed that Peyton is playing in Denver because I love that he is still playing.
