Golden Poppy by Vivian Winslow & Review

Synopsis:

New York socialite, Poppy Baron, has guarded her secrets for decades. With only a few months to live, she vows to heal her relationship with her daughters and to come to terms with the two decisions that have forever haunted her.
This novella is the final installment of the Gilded Flower Saga. Readers will finally get to learn how Poppy Kent became Poppy Baron and how her daughters paid the price for her love affair with Gustavo de Lima.
Poppy first appears in Gilded Lily as the manipulative Baron matriarch. Throughout the Gilded Flowers Trilogies and Wildflowers Series, the fate of her daughters, Lily and Dahlia, and those linked to her world, became intertwined as each of the young women
s love stories unfolded.
Not all relationships have their happily-ever-after, but real love transcends everything
even death.

Darra's Review:

Poppy is one of the most epic characters I have read. And have stalked Vivian to know even more about her. Talk about a 4 dimensional persona. I have read all of Vivian's books and this book was the most anticipated book this year. She makes the female characters into an example of strength and empowerment of taking over ones life. Despite what life throws Poppies way, she got it handled. I won't tell you Poppy was perfect. She made bad decisions however she became the woman she needed to be.
There is so much in this book. Her daughters, her husband(huff) and Gustav. This is a lifetime of memories and an ending that left me choked up. A surprising ending. Yes, it was going to happen. It was no bed of roses like HEA's always end. I was mixed in every emotion but in the end, at feel at peace to end of Poppy's book.
If you haven't read The Gilded Series and the two Poppy books, you must. So, you will understand why my review is a bundle of emotions and praise.
I rate the book a 4.9 out of 5. It is not a story you will forget.

Darra's Review:

I have been holding off on writing this because I would hate not to do the book justice. I am a huge fan of Vivian's book. I have read both the Wildflower and The Gilded Flowers series and that is why this has been one of the most anticipated books I wanted to read in 2016. It it did not let me down. Vivian has written her best book to date.
I recommend reading both series so you have some background on her family along with others and how Poppy affected their lives. Poppy has made an impression on so many people. You have no idea how just one person could change each one's life. She is an enigma, a woman like no other. She only be a character in a book. But she is so much more. She needs the commercial. The Most Interesting Woman In The World!
This book starts from the beginning of her adult life. With no life experience besides watching her family life being torn and her Mom's questionable decisions. Just like the other Wildflower stories, she has came to life meeting new people. She meets a man and falls for him. Not a perfect, happily ever after. Then real life happens and she must live with the consequences. It brought me to tears. I can't imagine having to make those life changing decisions at such a young age. Heart breaking.
With all this, she moves on with her life. She finds what she never expected. Love. However life is not so simple. She goes through so many hurdles and my heart breaks for her. But she is a unbelievably strong woman and handles it with grace. There is so much to her and sometimes life is unfair. I really don't want want to go into much detail about the plot because every moment is important. This was her life. In the Gilded Flowers, you find out what she became after her 20's. Who she was at the end was because of the decisions made earlier. I never thought some of the things she did to her own children had justification. However from what happened to her, she knows what she wants for her children. An easier life and no burdens.
Poppy is amazing to say the least. The strongest and smartest female character I have read and cannot imagine finding another one like her. I could not get enough of her. I could read 3 more books about her. Poppy has seemed to lived a hundred life's and want more happiness for her. I wanted to be there for all of it. To know her every thought.

I wish for more of her. She is by far the reason why this book is remarkable. Not only the story of her life, but of because who she is and who she became. By the way, the ending? Mouth dropping.

I cannot express how much I believe you need to read this. Beautiful writing and theses are the books that you will carry in your mind for years. I rate the book a 4.9. I read this in December and think about it every week. The fill in the blanks I make up in my mind.

Darra's Review:

If you have not checked out our blog, than you are not aware of how much of a fan I am of Vivian's work. When I receive the books, everything is put on hold. Vivian has never let me down. Uncovering Camila is another hit out of the park.
This book can be a stand alone. However each book Vivian has wrote includes characters that overlapped into other books prior. People come and go out of our lives. Her books are the same. Many characters have a great story. Although sometimes it is the minor characters who surround the main character that make the story multi dimensional.
Camila is a strong woman that is trying to move on with her life, leaving her ex behind. Her priorities are her future. Making sure she finishes school and start her career immediately. Although she still has lingering feelings for her ex(Which is in Forbidden Rose), Camila has no plans to start another relationship. However Camila's cousin does not think the same. She is hooking Camila up with an unknown date. Which he shows up and she has no idea why he keeps eyeing her. However Marshall has caught her attention at the very least. He is charming in an unknowing way. Any warm blooded woman could not help herself from desiring that type of man. Of course Marshall has a big part of this book, but I think the most interesting parts are about the choices Camila makes in her personal and career life.
What she decides will effect her relationship with her parents. It is a struggle to separate the two into different compartments. Ultimately it is her choice on how to proceed. But I think some of plans for her future are based on the people who she meets.
I enjoyed her. Yes, it is great that she met Marshall. He will give you the warm and fuzzy in your stomach. I mean, Camila's, not us. ;-) Hell, what am I saying? Vivian always writes those kinds of men in her books. They don't need those damsel in distress. These guys like the strong, independent women that may not need them in their life, but wants to stand next to that man and look forward to the future being with them.

I have became a broken record. I know I have said this before, but I will reiterate again. It is the characters who make the story great. Camila and Marshall do just that. Vivian's characters make the story com to life. To crave more of what is to come. With whoever is to come next?

So excited! Maybe a tad giddy if the next book will be just as great as Uncovering Camila.

I rate the book a 4.6 out of 5. Clink on that link and buy!

Sexcerpt
Camila turns her body to face Marshall. Lifting her hand, she runs a finger down the side of his face. He catches her hand and trails kisses around her palm. From there he runs his tongue up her index finger and sucks. He continues to suck on her fingers relentlessly, each one stirring her craving for sex even more than the last. She smiles to herself. This dare will be far easier than I thought.
She sits astride Marshall on the bench, careful not to tear her dress. “You sure about this?” He asks.
“Why do you ask?” Camila rubs his cock from outside his trousers. “You want to hear me say that I want to be with you?”
“Yeah, I do,” he replies before crushing his lips against Camila’s. Like last time, this kiss blows her away with its intensity, as he alternates between tender caresses and biting her bottom lip. Unlike last time, there’s an undercurrent of desperation behind it because they both know the weekend will end and their City lives will resume, where neither one will be able to touch the other. Somehow that prospect of it ending before it even begins drives them further into the moment, passion superseding all reason and doubt.
Camila doesn’t speak right away. She wants her kisses to speak her desire for her. For her tongue to find his and to stroke it the way he stroked her pussy that morning in her apartment. She brings her hands to his face, gripping him with the intensity of a lover who’s saying both hello and good-bye. It’s truly liberating to own this level of freedom with someone knowing that the present is all they have. She can feel his erection grow and press against her cunt, growing slicker with every kiss and lick against her lips. Camila draws his left hand under her dress so he can feel her desire.
Marshall moans into the next kiss, taking her deeper as he buries two fingers inside of Camila. She cries out silently, only a jagged breath shattering the stillness around them. Time has literally ceased to exist in this moment between the two lovers as they continue to climb toward their mutual pleasure. Camila lowers the zipper of his pants, freeing his cock. Marshall hisses as she begins to stroke him. What he wouldn’t give to feel himself inside her warm mouth right now. He groans as he bites down on Camila’s lips, remembering how it felt when she took him deep inside her. He starts to penetrate Camila faster. He wants to fuck her this way and so many others right here on this bench. How perfect and poetic to have someone like Camila on the Baron estate where he’d lost his virginity to Dahlia, the eldest of the twin daughters, all those years ago in the pool house. To bring such light to a place that represents so many memories from his past fills him with such a sense of peace he doesn’t want it to end.
Marshall takes out his fingers and licks them before putting them in Camila’s mouth. She sucks on them hard. The idea that these fingers were just inside her pussy drives her further into her lust. She lowers herself over his cock, prepared for how deep he would go and how far it would stretch her. This time her eyes are open, watching the look of pleasure on his face as she takes him fully.
His moan is louder than it should be, but neither of them cares. She rides him slowly this time, with greater purpose than before. Each time, she wants to feel him deep inside her, and he wants to savor it too. Marshall pulls Camila tight to him, burying his groans into her mouth, his kisses conveying a warmth and gratitude for tonight, for that morning in her apartment, and for feeling so fucking good at this moment.
He buries his face in her breasts as he continues to thrust into her. Her cries match his. Both are so close to coming, but neither of them is ready to. The reality after the fact will hit them both, and they want to push it away as long as they can. Marshall wraps his arms around her tighter, unable to edge any longer. “I’m going to come,” he whispers.
Camila nods as she rides him harder, lifting herself off, and slamming down so she feels it in her G-spot. She draws a deep breath, finally reaching that deep abyss as Marshall stops thrusting and lets himself go.

Things We Have Read Lately!

Darra and I have read a lot books lately. I know...SHOCKING!!! We have been trying to get back to reading the same books so that we can honestly give you each of our opinions. For a little bit we over loaded ourselves and had to divide and conquer. So we thought we would tell y'all about some books that have made us CRY, scared the H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS out of us, made us LOL and don't forget some of the HOTTEST books out there!

Tear Jerking Cry Fest Books!!!

We all know that every now and then we need a good cry. We are not emotional people. We have read a couple of books in the past couple of months that have made us ball like little babies. So congrats to the authors that pulled on our heart strings enough to make us blubbering messes and we totally recommend these books!

This book...seriously you will be a snotty mess. I had a bad week and knew that I needed to purge my feelings that weekend. I got home and started the book around 6:30 or 7 and finished it at like 2AM. I went from tears just running down my face to the snot running down my face and actually crying enough that my dog was trying to get in my lap and make me feel better. My eyes were swollen the next morning and bloodshot. I wish there were more than 5 stars for this book. I think everyone should read it.

While reading this synopsis you would never think this book will make you cry. So why do I have it in here? There are other characters in this book that will make your heart break over and over. While we love Kenzie and Kane, Tessa's story caused tears to just roll down my face. I had to stop and text Darra asking her why she didn't tell me I was going to cry. Her response: "Why would I tell you? I wanted to make sure you grieve with me." Well, she got her wish, I ugly cried.

LOL until you pee a little bit!!!!

This book was not LOL the whole time but there are a couple of parts that will totally getting you rolling laughing! I mean like OMG I could totally see this happening in real life and I would die laughing if I knew this happened to someone. The best part of this, I only know of 1 other authors that talks about this specific act realistically. Normally in books this is glossed over and is totally made to be thought glamorous. Trust us, you need to read this book to find out about this stuff.

I am not going to put the synopsis up for these books. They are all hilarious and we text each other during all of these books needing to talk about how funny they were. If you ever need a pick me up book to put you in a better mood, Meghan Quinn is your go to author and these books are the best.

Books that will make you go WTF did I just read!!

All of these books are really crazy jacked up stories. I wonder what the deal is when we read these and love them. When I say love them, I mean we want to know more. For a long time all of the books we were reading were romance and happily ever afters. I love a good HEA but sometimes you need to change it up. I didn't realize that were changing it up this much....

This book...wow! I was literally like WTF just happened. There are so many things wrong in here. I loved it in the way that a book will forever stay with you. It has a lot of twists and turns. One part made me stop and just shake my head at the authors. I was like I can't believe you just did that to me! You need to check this book out if you love some suspense and want to wonder about the world (and the authors).

We have talked about this book before and Tony Rawlins is still one of my top villains. I seriously can't believe the way this book went and I am working my way through the rest of the series. Tony is out of control crazy and he has stuck with me for a couple of years. I think this was the first book that we read like this and honestly I don't know what to say about it. There are so many parts that made me cringe and a little sick to my stomach.

Oh, Tara Dawn. I love this author and how she reminded me what small town southern living was like. She could have been describing so many people that I knew at one point. This is a trilogy and I can't wait for the rest of it. It is so realistic to me and so freaking crazy. I can't even tell you all the feelings going through me when I read this book. I will say that when I saw the second book, Taint show up on my Kindle last night I squealed a little bit. I did not start it because you have to be in a place where you can devour her books in one sitting. All I can say is Welcome to Crazy Town if you are going to read these books.

Hot like Fire!!!!

Oh holy hotness!!! I would kill for a guy like Noah. I mean if you are going to read this one, you need to make sure you have a fan going so that you don't combust. The book and story are really great and I can honestly say that Noah stuck with me. I can't say it enough, read this book!

I liked this book in some ways and hated it in other ways. It is freaking ahhhhmazingly hot though! I am torn on the characters in the book but I totally LOVE the middle of this book. You so need to go get this and read this! I have to give props to Summer for going through with this plan. I don't think I could although I feel like this is so many girls' fantasy!

Hope you enjoyed some of our book choices and hopefully you found something you would like to read this weekend. Let us know if you have recommendations for us. We love getting feedback!!!

FORBIDDEN ROSE - teaser 3

My Review:

I have read each book from Vivian Winslow and have loved them all. Forbidden Rose is now my favorite. It makes you ache, flutter in your stomach and warm all throughout your body. You will feel all emotions reading this book. So what I am saying? This book needs to be on your tablet today.

I have known Rosa from the series, Tiger Lilly Series(#1). Honestly I was reluctant if I was going to truly like her. She seemed possibly shallow(Rosa knows how to party). Turns out it was absolutely the opposite. She has problems with her family at times, but she has a close relationship with her mother. Hard to find in many books. She was independent, strong and has a drive to become her one person. Pretty close to perfect character.

Eliseo. Eliseo. Eliseo. It is not because he is the best guy. It is the full package of who he is. Passionate is a good word to describe him. In all in his life. Cooking, Love, family and friends. He is what was needed to make my happily ever after.

Overall, WOW is the best word to describe Forbidden Rose. Great story with characters that melt your heart. I will not say more. I think part of the Excerpt says ALOT of what made this book great.

I rate the book a 4.8.

Excerpt
Rosa pushes Eliseo onto his back and begins to mark him with her nails and teeth. She loves that he likes when she’s rough with him, and every mutual bite makes her wetter. He can’t keep his lips off of her, even when she’s down over his tight stomach. He pulls her arms up and sucks on each of her fingers, forcing her to stop when she feels a tug at her core. Desire drips out of Rosa and sticks to her thighs. She loves the feeling of want. It’s delicious torture to have him so available to her but to deny herself, even for a short time. He bucks his hips reflexively, needing to be inside her. Rosa runs her tongue over her top lip and smiles before moving her warm, wet tongue over his cock. Eliseo hisses as she takes him into her mouth. He loves when she goes down on him. There’s nothing sexier to him than a woman who’s unafraid of her sexuality and strong enough to express it. Eliseo lies back and closes his eyes, shutting out the fact that this will not be his reality much longer. He knows Rosa’s right, but it kills him to acknowledge it. He’s always known he has the capacity to be as self-centered as his mother, doing whatever feels right at the moment. Keeping Rosa to himself is what he wants, but he will hurt her if he tries and she’s not ready. Neither one of them were ready for the other. It’s as if the universe had brought them together just to show them the potential of what could be and nothing more. He groans as Rosa takes him deeper, swallowing and then opening her throat more to accommodate him. She’s one of the most generous lovers he’s ever had. But love does that. It compels you to want to give more of yourself than you’d imagined possible. Eliseo had tried to do the same for Rosa. To give her everything he could. Yet, if he were entirely honest with himself, he would have admitted to himself earlier that it wasn’t enough. Perhaps one day he can prove that he’s no longer burdened by the weight of his emotional baggage. Until then, he’ll show his love to her every way he can. She digs her nails into his chest as she continues to suck his cock, his hips moving in rhythm. Saliva drips down around her mouth and his shaft as she licks him up and down, tickling the underside with the tip of her tongue. The noise out of his mouth is unintelligible. Rosa laughs and nearly chokes as she goes back down on him. Eliseo smiles down at Rosa, loving how easy and fun sex is with her. Rosa grasps the base of his cock and pumps her hand up and down along with her mouth. Eliseo lies back, relishing this moment with her. He runs his hand over her head and presses down once, signaling he’s almost ready to come. She picks up her pace, wanting nothing more than this with him. Of course they have all night, there’s time for everything else. Right now, this is for him. Eliseo moans loudly as he explodes into her mouth. Rosa takes it all, swallowing everything he has to give her. Without missing a beat, Eliseo pulls Rosa to him, his lips conveying a gratitude for all she’s given him. Rosa sits up and straddles his chest, gazing down at him with a look he’d seen before and had taken it for wonder. But now he recognizes it as love. It pains him to think someone else might inspire the same look, the same feelings in Rosa. Maybe she’ll come back to me before that happens. His hands don’t stop moving over her curves, from her ass to her waist and up to her breasts. Her beauty fascinates him because he wasn’t drawn to her for the prettiness of her face or the long, thick wavy hair that is the envy of so many. Granted she has the body he’s always found most desirable—the curvaceous ass, strong legs, small waist and the most delectable tits—yet it occurs to him in this moment that not once were those the features that made her attractive to him. As he summons the memory of seeing her for the first time after so many years, all that he can recall is how being with her made him feel. Her laughter, her smile, her touch meant more than the physicality of her being. It was as if all of her qualities shaped her perceived beauty more than her actual looks.

In the wake of the collapse of her father’s business empire, Flor, the gorgeous twenty-one year-old daughter of disgraced former Brazillionaire Gustavo de Lima, is forced to forge her own path in life. Flor decides that none of it—the private jets, the vacation homes and the luxury cars—were real. Or at least they really didn’t matter. The only thing that’s real for Flor is her love of horses and her desire to go to veterinary school. Heading into her final year of college, Flor seeks out the help of an unlikely benefactor to secure a summer internship working with horses. Arriving at the secluded Belo Horizonte ranch, Flor is awed not only by the majestic beauty of the place, but also by handsome cowboy and skilled horse trainer, Collin Taylor. Yet nothing is quite as it appears on the surface. When the hidden past is revealed, will love end up blossoming for Flor?

Darra's Review:

I have read all of Vivian's books all were memorable and interesting. Books lately have not stand out for me to remember 3 weeks past. However I have never had a problem with Vivian's series. This was a great book. Truly enjoyed it. I was a bit worried because of the title of the book. I thought this would be about a girl that was a virgin and completely clueless of the real world.
Luckily that was not the case. Flor is the daughter of Gustavo. Which if you have read the Lily Series, you will understand why I loath him. I recommend to read that series before reading this to really get the just of the background of characters.
Past that, the story wonderful and was the whole package. Great characters, fantastic story and a great ending to the book. The whole package! You love both Flor and Collin. Which is a must in a book. I truly looked forward to reading more of the Wildflower series. No pressure Vivian!

I would rate the book a 4.4. It has the whole package. A must read!

Excerpt
Flor throws herself into work the next week, trying her best to forget about that touch. She does what she can to keep Paco and his inviting eyes at arms’ length as well. What for? She chides herself. In case Collin accepts her invitation for coffee? Even she has to laugh at that. But what then? It’s only ten weeks until she leaves for Smith. Ten weeks isn’t a lot of time, but when you’re young, it’s certainly long enough to try to get to know someone. “Are you interested in coming over tonight?” Paco asks Flor as she helps him sort out semen samples in the lab. She closes the door to the small fridge and smiles. “To watch a movie?” He chuckles and removes his gloves. Leaning toward her he says, “I was thinking along the lines of wine and music. But if you prefer a movie . . . .” Flor shakes her head. “No to the movie?” Paco asks, running his hands through his thick hair. Flor watches, mesmerized by his smooth manner. “I don’t get it, Flor. One moment, I think you’d like to get to know me, then the next, you act like you don’t.” He steps toward her. She remains frozen, his gaze holding her in place, her eyes watching his gorgeous lips move. What did he just say? “Usually I can tell when a woman is attracted to me, but you, I get mixed signals.” He reaches out and runs a finger along the back of her hand. Nope, not even a flicker of electricity. Flor looks down and doesn’t answer. But still she’s extremely attracted to him. Her panties are wet, and it’s a struggle to control her breathing. The Argentinian draws his long finger up to her chin. “You are incredibly beautiful, Flor,” he whispers. His face inches closer to hers, his blue/gray eyes searching hers. He wants permission and a part of her is screaming to give it as much as it’s screaming for her to leave. She closes her eyes and parts her lips, knowing it won’t feel right. She wants him to realize it too. Paco’s lips are as soft as she imagined them to be. He reaches his hand around her neck and pulls her body to him, his tongue entering and searching for more. It feels better than Flor even imagined when she lay awake touching herself, picturing him covering her body with his mouth and tongue. All of a sudden she’s on fire. Flor reaches up, her hands on either side of his face. Their kiss deepens as his hands begin to roam, slowly unleashing the desire she’s felt since she first laid eyes on him. The kiss feels incredible. He’s truly an expert at reading a woman. His tongue traces her lips before biting down softly on her bottom lip. The sensation travels straight down to her sex, pulsing with need. That’s what this is now. Pure, unadulterated need. He sparked it in her, and now he’s stoking the fire with every touch, every kiss. As Paco’s lips travel down her neck, she catches their reflection in the window. The image of them together with her in his arms, makes her stop. She wrenches herself out of his embrace. “I’ve got to go,” she whispers. Before Paco has a chance to respond, she’s already out the door. When Flor nears the house, she stops and leans against a large magnolia tree, slides down the trunk, and hugs her knees to her chest. Flor tries to push the image of her and Paco out of her head. He’s not the one she wants. It’s Collin. Why these men and why now? She laments. In the few short weeks she’s been here, she’s allowed herself to be consumed by longing for one and being pursued by another. Is this karma? Flor wonders. The moment she determines she doesn’t want to fall in love or become entangled in anything the universe puts not one, but two desirable men in her path. Although one doesn’t seem to want her back. Flor stands slowly, watching bees flit from flower to flower on the low hanging branches. No one thing or person is worth the energy at this point, she resolves. She’ll do as she pleases and let the chips fall where they may.

Vivian Winslow was born and raised in Southern California. Before becoming a writer, she made a career out of moving around the world every couple of years thanks to her husband’s job and her incurable wanderlust. She currently lives in New York City with her husband and two elementary school age children, and is grateful to finally have a place to call home for more than two years. New York is the perfect city to indulge her love of fashion, the arts and especially food. If she’s not at home writing or running around the city with her kids, you’ll most likely find her eating at the newest restaurant in her beloved Lower East Side or having a cocktail at her favorite bar in Alphabet City. That said, she’s still a California girl at heart and would gladly trade in her heels for a pair of flip-flops to catch a sunset on the beach.
