Custos Securities SERIES #2

By Luna David

3d braden
CUSTOS SYNOPSIS

Zavier “Cade” McCade, former Army Special Forces and creator of Custos Securities, found himself in a situation he never thought he’d be in–he’s fallen in love with Braden Cross, the gorgeous pastry chef he’s guarding. Cade has lived his life as a protector: of his country, his family and friends, his clients, and now, the man he’s in love with. He thrives in dangerous and stressful situations. But, nothing could prepare him for Braden’s decision to put himself in danger. After the vicious attack from his stalker leaves Braden fighting for his life, Cade will stop at nothing to see the man responsible punished. Time passes, but Braden’s attacker hasn’t given up and Cade’s afraid he never will. As Cade and the most trusted members of Custos Securities track Braden’s assailant, Braden struggles to rebuild his life and re-establish the fragile trust he and Cade had worked so hard to build. Braden knows if he’s going to survive the chaos surrounding him, he’s going to have to give Cade everything he has—mind, body, and soul.

(Choose one excerpt and delete the other. Thank you)
Excerpt One:
Braden’s brain came back online slowly, like an old computer that took forever to boot, running through its programs, one by one. The very first thing he noticed was that he felt as if he was weighed down by something. He couldn’t move his arms or legs. He tried lifting his head and got even more frustrated. His head, his ribs, his wrist, all of it fucking hurt. Not being able to move and yet feeling so much pain filled him with a sense of foreboding that he couldn’t fully comprehend. Everything seemed fuzzy, muddled. He forced himself to calm down and tried to use his other senses to figure out what was going on. He breathed in through his nose, trying his best to smell something, anything, but realized there was something stuck in his nose that felt strange and uncomfortable. He wasn’t able to smell much, but there were some lingering, familiar scents, though nothing he could put his finger on, and that irritated him. He kept trying, but nothing came to him, so he moved on. Braden listened carefully and tried to pick up on any sounds, any clue; where he was, who he was with, how long he’d been out, what had happened, but again, nothing came through enough for him to answer those questions. That was until he quieted his mind, stopped the jumbled, panicked thoughts, and tried to still his breathing. There it was, music played softly in the background. A song ended, another began; both he was very familiar with. His heart picked up speed. That was good, right? Wasn’t that good? He couldn’t even answer that, but those two songs, by different artists, came one right after the other on his long “Baking” playlist. The first stirrings of hope bloomed. He wasn’t about to give up now that he’d recognized something, so he tried little things like moving his fingers, moving his toes, his lips, his eyelids, his nose. Then he tried everything all over again, found that it was working and figured some movement was better than none. His whole body felt weighed down and he sincerely hoped that a blanket was what gave him that feeling. Again he tried to move his hand and flex his fingers but found them caught by something and tightened his grip trying to use it as a catalyst to keep going. Something, someone, next to him shifted. His heart rate ratcheted up, and he couldn’t figure out why someone being in the bed with him would freak him out, but it did. He concentrated on his eyes. He squeezed them tighter, moved them around and tried to open them. He couldn’t. Frustration filled him again and he shook his head, or tried to. He let out a soft moan and startled himself when he heard it. He tried again to open his eyes and this time he was somewhat successful, but everything was cast in shadow. His eyes felt tired and they drooped shut again, but he forced them back open. He looked at the ceiling. He lowered his eyes and looked at the wall in front of him. There was a TV there and the walls were green, so he knew he wasn’t at home. He looked to his right and saw a curtain hanging from the ceiling, pulled halfway shut, blocking a door, and knew right away he was in a hospital. He moaned, scared all over again. How did he get here? What had happened to him?

Excerpt Two: The drive to Cade’s parents’ house took nearly thirty minutes. When Braden realized what area they were driving toward, he got even more nervous, if that was possible. These people were out of his league. “Your parents live in Sea Cliff, don’t they?” “Braden, you make it sound appalling. I promise you, my family members are not pretentious douchebags.” “I feel out of my element. This is so beyond what I’m used to, Zavier.” Cade smirked at him. “You’re really feeling that uncomfortable? Enough to use my full name?” “Stop teasing me! Seriously, am I even going to use the right fork?” Cade laughed in disbelief. “The right fork? What is this, Pretty Woman? I promise that there isn’t a dour majordomo named Jeeves waiting to open their door and a French chef named Pierre cooking a seven course meal with five forks! It’s a simple family meal.” Braden snickered, he couldn’t help it. “You’ve seen Pretty Woman?” Cade heaved a put upon sigh. “Who hasn’t? I have a sister, don’t I?” “Ugh, fine! But if I embarrass you or something, don’t blame me!” “Braden, I love you. I’m going to assume you’re teasing me right now, because if you’re seriously thinking that you could ever embarrass me, you’re going to piss me the fuck off and I don’t want you to meet my family when I’m feeling angry.” Braden made a frustrated sound and turned in his seat to face Cade. “I’m sorry. I know I’m being ridiculous. I don’t know why I’m so nervous! I just feel like you’re my forever and if I don’t make a good impression on your family tonight, I could lose you.” Cade had pulled into his parents’ driveway, and Braden, so caught up in his confession, didn’t know they were there. He put the car in park and turned in his seat toward Braden. “Baby, I’m your forever, just as you’re mine. That’s the only thing they’re concerned about. I promise they aren’t the type of people to pass judgement like that. Now, are you ready to do this?” “Ready as I’ll ever be, I suppose.” “Good. Brace yourself.” Braden looked alarmed and then jumped in his seat when his door was opened behind his back.

CUSTOS SYNOPSIS
At 38, Zavier “Cade” McCade has it all: a military career he can be proud of, a successful business, and a close knit group of family and friends. A former Army Special Forces Captain, Cade leaves the military to create Custos Securities, a burgeoning protection agency that provides unparalleled security for both civilians and corporations across the U.S. After a string of disastrous relationships—and a narrow escape from an abusive partner—Braden Cross is finally putting his past to rest. Combining both his passion for baking and his knack for business, Braden owns the Sugar n’ Spice CafĂ© with his best friend who concocts exotic coffees and teas that pair perfectly with his decadent confections. When a stalker sets his sights on Braden, the young pastry chef’s world is turned upside down. More frightened than he cares to admit, and not knowing where to turn, Braden is relieved when Cade steps in to offer his protection. Caught up in a maelstrom of threats, break-ins, and vandalism, the two draw closer together. Braden eventually realizes that he can trust Cade with his life, but he finds himself wondering… can he trust him with his heart? A Dirty Texas Novella
He was everything she was looking for...

It is recommended that you have read Suddenly Dirty, book 1 in the Dirty Texas series as this novella continues on from where it finishes.

Darra's Review:

I really did enjoy Dirty Texas. There was so much to it. Great story plot and interesting characters. Loved the whole band. In Dirty Texas you will think Evan is an ass and feel for Sienna when she is handed a shit hand by her Ex.
You have to read the first book to understand Suddenly More. Otherwise it will leave you feeling incomplete. Totally lost and there are so many characters that need their own book, we will need more of them in the future.
Anyways, this book starts where the first book leaves off of. The first book was a HEA story. But this Novella gives you more of what came to be afterwards. It was really sweet and you see how Evan and Sienna evolve to who they became. Parents with never ending love. A romantic persons dream come true.
It was fairly predictable after the first book. Not that I mind. I just enjoyed the first book more just because it is a story that has many highs and low's in everyone's life.

I would rate the book a 4 out of 5. Definitely interested in more books to come.

Darra's Review:

This is not really a review. If you haven't checked out my reviews for the first three books of The Fish Tales, you must. I can tell you without a doubt my reviews for Suanne's books are directly from the (Book) heart. Even started writing a novella to explain how much I loved each book. A serious hour commitment of thoughts. I know, deep stuff here.
Totally getting off track. I was more than enthused when I received this book to read. A fist bump in the air and a see ya next week when I finish. At first, I thought this would be filled with a large portion of Will and what happened in the span of the 3 books. Starting from the beginning, I was wrong. It is deleted scenes from all the books. Can you believe there was more? These books are LLOOONNNGGG. And for good reason. How can you not include each part when we are reading about many characters?
I was once again pulled into these missing scenes that now seem necessary. The best part of this was to read the beginning of Suanne's ideas for the characters. When I started this, Erik was fine. Totally not the same person. Luckily her characters evolved into who they were meant to be and made me much happier for that.
Am I rambling yet? Yes, I know. Although these scenes didn't make it, I almost feel relieved. There were many characters I did not know much about and now I understand them better. Example Lucky. I liked her, but now that I read the deleted scenes, I get it! Now I understand why Will loved her.
I do love Will. But the interview, not so much. When you say what happened in his circumstances in a blunt and honest way, it loses a personal touch. Just words. Thank baby Jesus Suanne decided to go further into his point of view. In the life of Will and all who are part of his life. I want to point out that I had no curiosity in his sexual interests. There may be readers that need every gritty detail, but I am not one. I wanted to know Will. And his relationship with Erik is amazing. That is a best friend soul mate. Laughed my ass off about what Will did when Erik had his attention to Daisy.
This is a great book to read to get the insight of a writer. Her decades of writing this story and how it morphed into what it became. I have never read the behind the scenes book and I am not sure there are many authors that will do this. Which makes this book truly one of a kind.
This book makes me realize, again why I fell in love with this series. The evolution of an author and her characters.
Thank you for giving us the few pieces that were missing to a fantastic story. This will remain one of my favorites.

Does this really need a rating? Not really, but a 5 out of 5 should suffice.

Read the other books people! This book is not intended as a standalone obviously.

Driving Me Mad by Lindsay Paige is LIVE!!!

Synopsis:

He was my therapist.

She was my client.

He’s the person I lean on and turn to.

She’s the person who brings me relief when there seems to be none.

He makes me smile and laugh when anxiety and depression consume me.

She helps me breathe when depression is choking me.

I don't know how to live without him.

I don't know how to be honest with her.

Are we driving each other mad?

Sunny's Review:

I was not sure about this book at first. A lot of times, I like to read books that could never really happen. I read to escape life. I am really glad that I read this one. Luckily, I don't deal with anxiety but I do deal with depression.

This book was great. I honestly felt the anxiety that Brittany was feeling. She is basically at the point of not being able to function in life. I can't imagine how horrible that is but during some of her attacks I could feel the pressure on my chest. I could feel the wanting to be sick and just wanted to close the book so I would not have to deal with her. So I would stop reading and within about five to ten minutes I would start reading again because I needed to know what was happening.

Brittany is out of control with her anxiety and depression. She became friends with Trace after she left for college and was no longer using him as her therapist. Trace deals with his own depression issues. I liked seeing their relationship but I also had some issues with it. It is a very fine line that I think they walked since he was her therapist and it caused me a little stress. I liked Trace even though I really wanted to choke him. I am pretty sure one of the first things teach in all psych classes is that you can't treat yourself.

I am giving this book 4.6 stars out of 5. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to give the story away but I will say that Lindsay did a wonderful job of showing emotions of the characters and I can't wait for the next book!!!

The Story of Jax and Payton by Anita Claire!!

Synopsis:

Payton's hectic schedule didn't include being ordered to show up at a customer’s office after his computers are taken hostage.

Of course, Jax, the guy doing the ordering wasn’t expecting his computer guy to be such a beauty.

Their first meeting doesn’t get off too well as Jax blurts out, “Payton—the dude I’ve been texting back and forth with for the last two years—is really a girl?”

“Yeah, well, Jax, you look a lot different than what I pictured too.” Except Payton finds Jax to be big, broad, and ruggedly handsome. Why do all the good-looking guys have to be such dicks? Payton wonders.

Jax can’t stop watching this beauty fix his computers, while Payton’s intrigued and repulsed all at the same time.

Afterwards Jax can’t get Payton out of his mind. A couple of days later, wanting to see Payton again, Jax hatches a plan.

Nothing could have prepared Payton for the ride Jax would take her on. And she certainly wasn't prepared for where she’d wind up when the ride was over.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except their ending was one Payton didn't see coming.

Sunny's Review:

This book is a quick, sweet read. There are a lot of good things in this story. Payton is a good character. She has her own business and works on her house in her free time. She spends a lot of her time on the beach with her dog and friends. She is basically a well rounded person and doesn't need to have anyone take care of her. Jax is a total guys guy. He was a football player and owns a construction company. He does call Payton a girl and is surprised that she is female. Payton works on Jax's computer security. Most techy people I know are guys so I don't fault Jax for his assumption. Maybe it is because I am from the South but I don't get offended when guys refer to women as girls.

After Jax and Payton get past their initial issues with each other, they start to bond over home renovations and become friends. They do a swap of services type deal. Payton will track down the hacker that was trying to extort Jax and he will help her finish her house by giving her fixtures and supplies that his clients reject. It is a good deal until Payton falls back down the rabbit hole of hacking herself and it causes some problems.

If you want to read a book with a little bit of mystery and some hot romance this is the book for you. I am giving it 4.2 stars out of 5. Go get it!!!!
