Poison by Molly Cochran!!

Synopsis:

Mischief abounds at the Ainsworth School, and evil is lurking. What’s more, Katy has won Peter’s heart and is now claiming her place in the magical world. Though half the students at her boarding school come from witching lines, the use of magic is expressly forbidden at Ainsworth, so as to keep the witching world hidden from the blue-blooded preppies, aka Muffies, who also walk the halls.
But the Muffies have at least a notion of magic, because Katy catches them staging a made-up ritual—and then fall seriously ill. When Katy is blamed, she becomes desperate to clear her name and finds herself battling all odds to harness her growing magical powers in order to save the Muffies and dispel the Darkness once more.

We Asked Molly:

Where did you get the idea for your characters from?
I love witches. I’ve studied them, fantasized about them, cried over them, and felt outraged over their horrible treatment back in the Middle Ages. I admire their insistence on remembering the Old Ways (Wicca itself is known as “The Old Religion”) and their acceptance of the supernatural. Mostly, I deeply respect a tradition in which women are the preeminent teachers, philosophers, and spiritual leaders, and are not considered to be inferior to men in any way.
So I wanted to write about witches, minus the stigma of evil that’s been carried over ever since women (and men) were burned at the stake for being uppity. I personally like uppity witches, so I invested the characters in Legacy and Poison and the next book in the series, Seduction, with special powers. Some are healers, some are astral travelers. Some can read minds. Some have more than five senses. My main character Katy is a telekinetic, meaning she can move objects with her mind. In the realm of paranormal abilities, telekinesis is a pretty humble talent, but it’s useful if Katy needs to physically defend herself, which happens pretty often. You can’t fight a flying table.
For those of you who are writers, here’s my advice about where to get your ideas: Write about what you love. Whatever interests you, whatever subject causes you to want to find out more about it, that’s where you’re going to get the spark for your story. As for characters… well, as Gustav Flaubert, the French author of Madame Bovary, said more than a hundred years ago, “Madame Bovary, c’est moi”. What he meant was that all the characters a novelist dreams up are really versions of herself. Which, if you ask me, makes the process even more fun.

Sunny's Review:

This book is really funny! There were so many parts that my jaw just dropped b/c it was really good. This starts out with Julie getting dumped by her fiance and forced to go get a story about a guy that listed a want ad on a utility pole. Of course Andy is super HOT and speaks French (not for me but hey...to each his own). He wants to have a business based marriage as opposed to one built on passion. He decides that Julie is the one for him and offers her a proposal.
I like Julie. She is not really annoying and you have to give it to her...she goes after what she wants. She also puts her best efforts into life with Andy. She does not complain about anything.
Andy is AWESOME. He is hot and a FARMER! (yes there is a hick inside of me) At first he seems a little jerkish (I do make up words...) but after awhile he seems to try and give Julie everything that she could want.
I would reread this book b/c it is sweet and funny. I really like both characters.  I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Templand by Jill Elaine Hughes

I did read Templand this past week. It is about Melanie Evers trying to seek out jobs and can only find short term(Temp) jobs here and there. It explains she was well educated but still is unemployed. Here is the problem I had with this. I was depressed for her the majority of the book. She has a loser ex-boyfriend and only meets IT Dave once on a job she quits. I did like Dave and finally we see him return by the end of the book. I did like the ending and how it unraveled. I just wanted more Dave and less living in hell only eating ramen and canned meat. We did get the point her life sucked not being able to find a job. I need more development of other characters and less details of all the years of hell in her life.
I would give this book a 3.3. A very goal oriented woman with bad luck. Just want more characters in her day to day life.

Book Description
The heroine, Melanie Evers, is a plucky young working-class woman from Akron, Ohio struggling to support herself in Chicago in the post-9-11 economy. TEMPLAND follows Melanie's journey through the temporary employment world from a college student on "just a summer job" to a 28-year-old woman with a lot of intelligence (and a heap of student loan debt to match) through multiple layoffs and a series of ever-more-wacky temp assignments, as she struggles not only to survive, but also to find romance and always remain true to the honest, working-class values instilled in her by her beloved grandfather. In her long, solitary journey through Templand, Melanie encounters adventure and romance on her search for that always-elusive Permanent Job---which she finally gets, along with her man.
TEMPLAND is a highly entertaining, wickedly funny social satire, contemporary romance, and
mystery novel all rolled into one.

The Forever of Ella & Micha by Jessica Sorensen

Synopsis:

Ella is back at school, trying to focus on her future and forget the darkness of her past. Still, her ongoing family drama is making it harder and harder to get through the days. All she really wants is Micha, but no way will she let her problems get in the way of his dreams.
Micha is busy touring the country with his band, seemingly getting everything he's ever wanted. But deep down he knows something is missing. Being away from Ella is harder than he expected. And while he longs to have her with him, he won't ask her to leave college just to be at his side.
When Ella and Micha are together, anything seems possible . . . but lately those shared moments aren't so easy to find. When a new tragedy shakes their already fragile world, one of them will make a dramatic choice that could break them apart forever . . .

Sunny's Review:

This is the next part of The Secret of Ella and Micha. I really like Micha. He is the a good guy and his whole life is focused on Ella. He is a little clingy but I like that he does go off to do his band thing. I like that he does not go out and do the whole slutty musician thing while he is dating Ella. Keep in mind that Ella has a lot of issues and you have to give her credit for trying to work through them. She may not go about it the right way but she also really wants Micha to have a great life. I also like that in the end Jessica Sorensen does not just say ok happily ever after. You can still see that Ella is not perfect and is still working through a lot of her issues.

I really recommend this series. I am not sure if I am going to read the 3rd book which is about Ethan and Lila. First, I don't really know if I like Lila enough to read anything from her POV. I am afraid she will just annoy me. I do want to know what the deal is with her family life...it seems very jacked up. I do like Ethan but I don't know if I want to go into their lives. I guess I will have to see.

I would give The Forever of Ella and Micha 4 out of 5 stars. Now I am anxiously awaiting the release of The Redemption of Callie and Kayden in August.

About the Author:

I’m the author of the Fallen Star Series, the Darkness Falls Series, the Death Collectors Series, and the New York Times and USA Today Best Seller, The Secret of Ella and Micha, a New Adult Contemporary novel.
I love writing and reading almost anything that is YA. Some of my favorite authors are Cassandra Clare, Sarah Dessen, Becca Fitzpatrick, Abbi Glines, Tammara Webber, Jamie McGuire and Jennifer L. Armentrout. I’m also an avid watcher of TV series The Vampire Diaries and of Modern Family.
I absolutely love music. When I’m writing, 9 out of 10 times I have music blaring in the background. My list of favorite songs could go on and on, since I have a very broad taste in music. But a few of my favorite bands are Chevelle, Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, Brand New, Death Cab for Cutie, Flight 409, Nirvana, and I’m going to stop there or else I’ll keep going on forever.
I don’t really have any favorite movies, but a few that I could watch over and over again are Anywhere but Here, Juno, Pride and Prejudice, The Hangover, and Bad Teacher.
