In fact, the longer she looked into its eyes that glowed in the darkened room, the more convinced she was that the purring beast would do whatever was necessary to protect her. It was like she and the animal had some kind of weird, unspoken connection. It was a bond that she didn’t want and had never asked to share, but one that she couldn’t deny and wouldn’t change even if she could. How fucked up was that? Maybe this was some kind of voodoo curse one of her disgruntled customers had wished on her when she hadn’t served their coffee quickly enough. Personally, she thought that might be a bit of overkill, but caffeine addicts were serious in Louisiana, and one did not play around when it came to providing quality coffee in the bayou. “Why couldn’t you be a dog? I could have handled this if you were a dog,” she muttered as she rolled her eyes toward the ceiling and hugged herself. “Especially since I’ve always been a puppy person,” she continued to babble as she shut her eyes and continued chafing her hands up and down her arms as a bizarre electrical charge seemed to ripple through the air inside the tiny bedroom. “Well, I think it’s safe to say that you are now very much a cat person. Or, at least this cat’s person,” a deep, sexy voice rumbled from the bed. “More specifically, you’re this panther’s person.” Alexa’s eyes popped open as that rich, deep voice seemed to vibrate through her being. Screaming as she spotted an extremely real — and from what she could tell (even in the darkness) was an oh, so very naked man in her bed — she quickly lunged for the nearest makeshift weapon she could find. Sadly for her, the closest missile she could find was only her television remote, and that merely bounced off her interloper’s sculpted chest. “Ouch!” her prowler growled, batting away the remote as she continued to screech, blindly searching for another weapon in the mostly dark bedroom. “Alexa, chère, settle down!” Wait a second? Why did her trespasser know her name? And why did that southern drawl sound so familiar? Making a half-turn on her not-so-steady feet, Alexa fumbled for the light switch on the wall, relieved when her searching fingers found what they were looking for. Flicking the switch, she squinted as her unfocused eyes tried to adjust when the room was suddenly flooded with bright, artificial light. Finally able to see a few seconds later, she couldn’t help emitting a small squawk as she saw the nude man lounging in the center of her bed.

Brushing a lingering kiss to the center of her now exposed porcelain skin, he lifted his eyes to hers and smiled wolfishly.  “I was just wondering if this couch is gonna provide enough room for me,” he replied as her ran two fingers down the center of her chest until they reached the clasp of her bra.

Her voice caught in her throat at his touch, and it was an effort to even get one word out. "Room to what, exactly?" she asked as her own fingers continued to release the buttons on his shirt. Feeling his lips moving against the fabric of her plain, serviceable lace bra, Bren finally freed that last button on his shirt, her sense of victory easily swallowed up in the sensations he was causing in her body. Burying her hands in the soft springy curls on his chest, she pushed the offending shirt off of his shoulders, her desire to see him too much to ignore.  “Whatcha think you’re gonna do here, Cassano?”

Catching her eyes with his, Matteo grinned against her pale flesh.  “Sweetheart, there’s no thinking to it.  I’ve imagined what I want to do to you a thousand times in a thousand different ways.  I know that I’m about to make those fantasies a reality.  I’m on the verge of devouring this beautiful body of yours.  I’m just curious as to where you’d rather serve me that meal.  Here or in a nice comfortable bed?  I’m good either place,” he returned huskily a scant moment before his teeth captured her nipple through the material of her bra.  Growling against her skin, he suddenly offered a great prayer of thanks to the brilliant genius who first imagined the possibilities of a bra with a front closing snap as his fingers quickly flicked open the clasp.

In one fell swoop, Bren felt her bra leave her body, the insubstantial material flying through the air.  If she wasn't mistaken,  she heard it land somewhere on the linoleum in the kitchen, and at some point later on she needed to remember to congratulate him on the distance he’d achieved. At this exact moment, however, that was the last thought on her mind as his wonderfully warm mouth suddenly found her waiting breast, engulfing it quickly in the fiery heat of his mouth.

We were looking forward to this book but it was not our favorite by this author. This story goes through Bren and Matteo's life. Bren is dealing with her career and her fear of losing people she loves. Matteo is quite a bit older than Bren and has never been a relationship guy. They both work for the FBI and Matteo is hitting the point that his career is set and he wants more. Bren is so focused on her career but there is something about Matteo that makes Bren want to focus on him. There are some really awesomely HOT scenes with just enough drama.

We think that a lot of people will really like this book. If you want an easy read and some fun scenes get this book. We are giving this book 3.8 stars out of 5.

A mere ten minutes later, Bren found herself firmly wrapped in those arms of his, straddling his waist as he made himself quite at home on her leather sofa. Dropping another quick kiss to his waiting lips, she felt his hands slide under her blouse, his fingers finding the shallow indentation of her lower spine and stroking her sensitive skin gently.

Moaning as Matteo’s arms tightened around her waist and pulled her closer, Bren’s eyelids fluttered as she arched against his warm touch.  Biting her lip, she felt Matt’s devious lips smiling devilishly against her neck as his magic fingers skated up her toned sides, stopping only when he reached the satiny fabric barrier of her bra. “Oh, God,” she gasped as he leaned forward, dropping a slow, wet kiss to the center of her neck, her pulse pounding against his tongue. Tracing a slow, agonizing pattern up her neck and ending at her ear, Bren shivered as he slowly drew her earlobe between his lips.

Matteo grinned as he felt a shudder claim her aroused body, and he couldn't resist pushing her just a little bit farther. "So tell me, Brenna,” he whispered sensually against her flesh, his warm breath fanning her neck and pulling another quiver from her small body.  “Are you still thinking about keeping me out of your bed tonight, love?"

Sinking her teeth into her lower lip as she shifted in the cradle of his lap, Bren’s hand fisted in Matteo’s shirt, her nails digging into the soft material as her other hand desperately tried to unfasten the infuriating buttons she just knew had to be there somewhere.  “Now, Matt,” she said breathlessly, “I think we’ve proven that this couch is more than sufficient for our needs, don’t you?”

“Which needs would we be talking about, babe?" Matteo asked on a growl as he dropped his hand back to her waist.  Trailing one blunt fingertip up her side until he cupped the warm weight of her satin-covered breast in his hand, he rubbed his lips against the thrumming pulse in her neck as he murmured, "Maybe this need right here?"

I knew a little about Honor and what happened to her, but I never imagined it this awful. Almost too painful to read such horror. But with the strong characters in this book, it made the pain lessen. Sarah O'Rourke writes characters with hope, despair, anger and persaverance. All the qualities that make each one stand out. 

Zeke is crazy in love with Honor and has been for many years. I have to give it up to him. I cannot imagine being in his shoes and waiting for the one he loves. Despite Honor pushing him away at times, he still remains there by her side and wants to protect her from the terrible people that did harm her many years ago. He was over the top crazy. Totally understandable considering the circumstance. The Alpha in him needs to take it down a notch.

Honor-sometimes I just want shake her till she see's what is right in front of her. Stubborn? Beyond. She is very lucky to have such a great family, however she needs to stop being in denial of who only wants best for her.

I liked the basis of the story. At times it became a bit wordy and overexplained where the story was going. Personally I could not talk about my feelings as much as they did. 

My rating is a 4.1 out of 5. Solid story with a strong ending.

We got to see a little bit of Zeke and Honor in Tangled Hearts so I couldn't wait for this book. I fell a little bit in love with Zeke. I didn't feel like I saw enough of Honor to form an opinion of her yet. So I had high expectations for this book. 

Zeke is an over the top alpha sheriff in a small town. I really did like him. He has spent the majority of his adult life trying to protect Honor. He blames himself for her kidnapping and brutal rape when she was a teenager. He has not dated anyone since she became an adult and he realized that he had feelings for her. I am still undecided on how I feel about Honor. While I can't imagine how I would be if I had to face the things that she did. At the same time, she seems very judgmental towards other people's choices. She is a mixture of a spinster and a child. There were some things that she would say that a 16 year old girl would say and then there things that were totally something your old unmarried aunt would say. I tried to give her some leeway since her life basically sucked due to circumstances beyond her control. I was very annoyed that she continued to play the victim even when she technically should not have been. 

I liked the story line. I thought that Zeke probably should have given up on Honor long before now but he didn't. There was a mystery and there were some serious issues in this book. It was tough to read some of it but I think that Sarah did a great job of showing the range of emotions that the characters were going through. 

I am giving this book 4.2 stars out of 5. Go get this book. You don't have to read all the books in the series. I didn't and had no problems knowing what was going on.  

Man of Honor – Excerpt

“Not necessarily, but I wouldn’t mind,” Zeke replied truthfully.  “Honor, darlin, you’re a gorgeous woman.”

“Not without my clothes,” she mumbled, bending her head to stare at her clenched fists.  “Ugly,” she muttered.  “I’m ugly.”

Tensing, Zeke’s jaw clenched.  “I don’t know why the hell you’re saying that, but there’s not a single ugly thing about you.  Not when you’re naked.  Not when you’re tryin’ to bring yourself to release.  Not ever, Honor Grace.  You do not ever have to be ashamed of your body.”

Honor slowly lifted her mortified gaze to him.  “You’ve never seen me without my clothes, Zeke.  There are scars.  So many scars.  They’re raised and bumpy.  Some are red and raw.  It’s disgusting, Ezekiel.”

“Bullshit.  Every single one of those marks remind me of one thing, Honor.  One,” he growled, holding up a finger between them.  “You lived.  You survived.  When all the odds were stacked against you, you defied modern medicine and every one of those damned doctors predictions, and you lived.  And all those scars will ever do is remind me of how lucky I am to still have you.  Don’t you ever tell me you’re ugly because you’re the most beautiful thing in my world.  You wanna be scared to share your body with me because of what happened to you?  I get that.  I can accept that.  But worrying about some marks on your flesh?  I love you, baby, but that’s insane.”

Honor stared at him a long time, gauging his sincerity.  “It doesn’t feel silly,” she finally grumbled.

“You need to reassess your feelings then because I assure you, it’s one of the silliest concerns you ever had.  Christ, baby, how long have you been agonizing of a worry as pointless as your scars?” he asked, shoving a frustrated hand through his dark hair.  “I could have put these fears to rest ages ago, Honor, if I’d known about it.”

“It’s hard to talk about,” she revealed in a low voice as her head twisted to look at him.

“Yeah?  Is feeling like shit alone better than talking it over together with me?” he returned calmly, reaching up to tenderly tuck her hair behind one ear.  “Baby, you gotta start getting this.  When you hurt, I hurt.  When you suffer, I suffer right along with you.  Don’t make either one of us feel that way needlessly, Kitten.  Just talk to me.  I know you have scars.  You’ve got them on your body, and you’ve got them on your soul.  I’ve sat by your hospital bed too many times to count and watched you while you did your damnedest to heal them both.  Those wounds are not new information to me and they don’t change shit.  I still love you, and I don’t allow those scars to do anything other than remind me to treasure every day I have with you.  Okay?”

Honor’s eyes were soft as they locked with Zeke’s.  “You really do love me a lot, don’t you?” she asked in a small voice.

“So much that I ache with it, Honor.”
