Storms can't last forever…can they?

For five long years, Rae Ryan has lived in a storm over which she has no control. Little by little, everything has been taken away from her—her job, her relationship, her best friend and her home. Plagued by nightmares and a terrible family secret, she carries her scars as much on the inside as she does on the outside.

Hart Booker, another disappointment from her past, returns to Bar Harbor and shelters her from the rain. He reminds Rae that forgiveness is possible, happiness can be found on the other side of darkness, and beauty rests beneath her scars. But a sinister figure lingering in the background seems determined to pull Rae back into a past she’s been trying to outrun. Can she survive the storm and become part of the light she so desperately desires? Or is she destined to remain
Pulled Within?

Recommended for mature audiences due to explicit language, sexual abuse, disturbing situations, and drug use.

Darra's Review:

Marni Mann's writing has evolved this series to make each book exceed the previous. Both books in these series can be stand alone and have such strong characters, you develop a need to know more about each one. I believe this is Marni Mann's best book I have read so far.

I loved the first book, Pulled Beneath. Drew and Saint were a winning combination and could not help but fall in love with both of them. When I learned that this story was about Rae, I was reluctant. She was not favored character in past book.

Boy was I wrong. I love her. Rae's life story was gripping, intense and  bleak but resilient. However with Brady's life on the rocks and Rae not having a happily ever after, I was Pulled into the book and read it non stop.

I try to stay strong, but I could not stop from crying. So much emotion from finding out the real Rae, you can't but feel her anguish.

Despite all the sadness of how Rae became Rae, Hart shows up after years of leaving her. His feelings are intense. How do you move forward with someone that left you behind? That is what Rae had to figure out. I am not telling anymore about their love story. It is just too good.

Fantastic book that leaves a dent in my massive book library in my brain. Definitely memorable.

I rate the book a 4.7. Very high on my book scale.

Excerpt #3 from Pulled Within:
“I don’t want my smell just here,” he said, kissing down my chest and stopping at the first closed button. His lips sat directly between my breasts. “I want it here, too.” The tip of his finger touched the middle of my thigh. “And here.” It moved closer to where my legs met. “And here.” Then it continued to slide up until it stopped on my clit. He only gave me the edge of his finger, and with hardly any pressure. It was enough to stop my breathing. “I want this spot to always smell like I’ve been here.” My back arched as he licked across my collarbone. “And I don’t think I can wait any longer to taste it.”
I didn’t think I could, either. Without the counter behind me, my body would have melted into the floor. He owned it now - every drop of moisture, every thought, every breath that came from my lips.
“Let me have it, Rae.” His lips were pushing the shirt aside while he worked his way over to my nipple. “Let my tongue make you come.”
I moaned into the air, and my eyes closed. I’d already given him control, but his words confirmed how deeply he was able to reach within me and the intensity of everything that swirled together now. “I’m yours.”
His breath caressed my neck and wrapped around the base of my chin. “Fuck…I’m going to devour you.”

Darra's Review:

A great book by Marni Mann. Right from the beginning of the book you can't help but all the sadness that Drew is going through. Then from out of nowhere she gets notice of a family that she never knew of. She goes to Maine and the town is full of mystery and secrets.
She meets the next door neighbor, Saint. Every woman's dream come true neighbor. Lets just say, he can swim in my cove any day! :-)
I wanted to the story of Brady, Saint and Rae. All I kept thinking why is everyone so secretive. It hass to be a good secret. And it was. I never imagined all of what Drew finds. Her mothers story about her life, which was a mystery to Drew.
At the end, I think that booked wrapped up with a sigh of relief. It  did not leave me with angst. I got the great story I asked for.
Fantastic storyline and great characters.
I rate the book a 4.4.

Excerpt from Pulled Beneath:
Saint’s hand moved to my cheek. He was holding it tighter than he probably should have been, but I needed that. I needed a bit of physical pain to mix with the emotional ache. It made me feel balanced.
“I…don’t know what to say, Drew.”
Nobody ever did.
My fingers touched his face, and the pad of my thumb grazed his lips. I melted from the sensation, from the texture of his flesh, the wetness of his mouth, the heat, I wanted all of them…all of them on me. “There’s nothing you can say.”
“No, I guess not.”
I was compelled by more than just the way he had listened or the brokenness I saw in his eyes. It was the feelings that had continued to stir within me since the first time we’d met, the ones that had nothing to do with our mutual pain. But it hadn’t meant as much to me then as it did now. Still, I couldn’t act on it. I couldn’t want anything from him.
Could I?
I slowly closed the gap between us, using my legs to draw him against me, letting our faces drift nearer. My arms began to fold around his neck. And just as my lips were about to touch his, he lifted me into the air above him.
“Tell me, Drew.” His chest was rising as fast as mine. “Tell me this is really what you want. If not, I’ll put you back on land and we can forget this ever happened.”
I hung weightless, his hands supporting all of me as I thought about his question. Was I even in the right state of mind to give him an answer? I felt free in his grip…and hungry.
There was nothing I wanted more than his lips all over me.
“It’s what I want,” I whispered. “Don’t let me go.”
He gently slid me down his body, bringing me deeper into the water as his hands traveled to the small of my back. My legs found his waist again, circling around him, pulling him into me. His mouth parted when I neared. Just before my lips touched his, he bent his head and kissed my neck, the spot where my throat met my chest. His hair tickled my nose, filling me with the smell of the ocean and his skin. My nipples hardened, poking into him, begging for his fingertips. It wasn’t only my desire I could feel…his was there, too, pressing into me.
“I can’t wait to kiss you,” he said.
“Then why don’t you?”
His mouth suddenly left my neck and traveled to my chin, slowly rising up my cheek and to my ear. He moved his lips across my forehead and down the other side, stopping when he reached my earlobe. He stayed there, breathing into my face, the intensity between us growing.
The anticipation teased my nerves and everything inside me began to shake.
 “Saint…” I whispered.
He leaned away from me and used the back of my head to bring me to him, steering me straight toward his mouth. “I’ve waited so long to do this, you needed to know what that waiting felt like.”
My eyes closed. “Don’t make me wait any longer.”
Before I even had the last word out of my mouth, his teeth and tongue had found me. Every time he pulled away to reposition his lips, he ever so gently nipped at mine, then his tongue would explore again. He was in complete control and I was melting beneath him.
