Black by TL Smith is LIVE!!!

black release day

Blurb
I am loyal, but I will betray you.
I am strong, but I have scars.
I am an angel, but the devil.
I met her when I was sixteen and she was a breath of fresh air. She swooped in, making me smile. But then she left, taking my next breath with her.
Her smile could light up a room, making my black heart pitter patter.
I found her again ten years later, with a syringe in her arm.
Blood coming from between her legs.
She was broken and I was glad she was broken. She wouldn't think less of me and my damaged ways.

Darra's Review:

I am lucky enough to be a blogger who gets to review books. And there are some books who can't help to be extremely excited to read. This happens every time TL Smith writes a book. I have loved all her books. Without a doubt, now one of my favorites.
Raw and in your face is the best way to explain the plot. Black is all but perfect. But who really wants to read a book with perfect people that don't exist in real life? Rose was in a world of hurt and deception right in the beginning of the book.
It is refreshing to read a book that has no fluff. Each character in the book is well thought out and you cannot help but go back in think of portions of the story long after I have finished reading.
I cannot give you a clue to what happens in the book. I will say, you will be asking TL Smith "When are you going to write about JAKE?"
BTW-Loved the cover. Looks just as I would picture him.

My rating is a 4.8. So glad I got to read it. But I can't wait to read Smith's next book.

Sunny's Review:

This is the first T.L. Smith I have read. Darra has read her books and told me I should start and I finally did. I can honestly say at first I was like "Really? This is not my type of book." I kept going and I am so glad that I did.

I liked both characters. Black seems like a psychopath at first and I was thinking there is no way I can like him. After you keep going through the book you see a different side of him and you have to end up loving him. I wonder about myself a little bit for sympathizing with him and forgiving him for his job. When Rose came in the picture I was thinking there is no way I am going to ever like her. Again, I was wrong. She isn't exactly what she seems in the beginning and really I have to say I admire her tenacity. I really have so many more things that I want to say about this book but I am afraid of spoiling anything for you. I will say that I want more and I want to know more about Jake! This book has a very memorable ending. As in as soon as I was finished after 10PM, Darra got a text about it! There are only a handful of books that have us texting about it before we see each other the next day at work. It was that good, I couldn't wait to talk about it.

I am giving this book 4.7 stars out of 5. The beginning is a little slow but it is so worth it to keep reading. Go get this book!!!

“Thank you for coming with me. I don’t know if I would have been able to do what you did.” Matthew smirked, trying to lighten the mood. “At least, not with the same results.”
Cali blushed and Matthew almost lost it. He wanted to touch her, to crush her body against his and kiss her within an inch of her life.
Instead, he backed toward the elevators. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
She grinned and began walking to her car.
He hesitated, then shook his head and continued toward the elevator.
As he waited for the elevator to reach him, he heard an engine rev. A small smile pulled at his lips as he thought of Cali heading home.
The elevator dinged right as a squeal of tires caught his attention. He whirled around in time to see a dark blue sedan he didn’t recognize speed up the exit ramp.
His heart pounded in his chest as he took off at a full-out run.

Cali.

Author Bio

Sherri spent most of her childhood detesting English class. It was one of her least favorite subjects because she never seemed to fit into the standard mold. She wasn't good at spelling, or following grammar rules, and outlines made her head spin. For that reason, Sherri never imagined becoming an author.
At the age of thirty, all of that changed. After getting frustrated with the direction a television show was taking two of its characters, Sherri decided to try her hand at writing an alternate ending, and give the characters their happily ever after. By the time the story finished, it was one of the top ten read stories on the site, and her readers were encouraging her to write more.
Nearly eight years later, Sherri is the author of eight full-length novels, and two short stories. Writing has become a creative outlet that allows her to explore a wide range of emotions, while having fun taking her characters through all the twists and turns she can create. Welcome to Serpent's Kiss (Serpent's Kiss 0.5)

After losing her husband unexpectedly, Katrina Mayer decided to open Serpent’s Kiss. She wanted it to be a place where she and her fellow kinksters could play and socialize.

Five years after the doors opened, the club is everything she’d hoped it would be. On Friday and Saturday nights, Serpent’s Kiss is filled with men and women who share a similar desire to explore the pleasures BDSM has to offer. The club has continued to grow, and over the years, many of its members have become friends.

The one thing Katrina didn’t expect when she’d decided to open a club was the human drama that came with it. Learning to balance her life as the club mistress has taken some getting used to, but she wouldn’t change a thing.

Beth Davenport has no interest in getting involved with another man for the foreseeable future. To say her last relationship ended in disaster would be a colossal understatement. The only reason she agrees to put in an appearance at Serpent’s Kiss, a private kink club in downtown St. Louis, is because her best friend, Nicole, won’t quit nagging her. When she walks in the door that night, the last thing she expects to do is meet a man who will have her reconsidering her ban on men.

As a captain with the St. Louis Fire Department, Drew Parker is used to being in charge. His crew relies on him to make sure they know what they’re doing and return home to their families after every shift. It isn’t, however, what he wants in a relationship. Drew decides to join Serpent’s Kiss to see if what appeals to him in fantasy is something he wants to explore in the real world. He’s also hoping that he’ll be lucky enough to meet a woman with whom he can explore his desires. The night Beth walks into the club, he is intrigued. Drew has to get to know her better.

After what happened to her, Beth is reluctant to get involved with Drew. It doesn’t matter that he is sweet and charming. She’s been burned before and Beth doesn’t think she can survive having her heart crushed again. Drew, however, won’t take no for an answer. He wants a relationship and is determined to chip away at her defenses until she relents. Will she give him a chance, or did her ex leave her with scars too deep to heal?

Blood On The Bayou by Heather Graham is LIVE!!!

We are so excited to bring you the Release Day Launch for BLOOD ON THE BAYOU by Heather Graham! BLOOD ON THE BAYOU is A Cafferty & Quinn Series Novella brought to you by 1001 Dark Nights. Grab your copy of this sexy novella today!

Blood on the Bayou - cover

Amazon eBook ** Amazon Paperback

  Excerpt:

Michael Quinn heard the hysterical crying the minute he entered the police station. The young woman creating the commotion was inside Detective Jake Larue’s office. Someone else was trying to soothe her while not becoming hysterical herself. “This one is right up your alley,” Larue told him as he approached. “My alley?” “That young woman is certain she saw a rougarou. She was on a bayou tour in Honey Swamp last night.” He smiled. No kid grew up in Southern Louisiana without hearing about the rougarou. Every region of the world had their own particular brand of monster. The rougarou belonged to the Cajun region of Southern Louisiana, stretching right into the city. “Honey Swamp?” he asked. “Doesn’t a problem in that area go to the Pearl River police?” “Yep,” Larue said. “But she’s here because she believes the rougarou followed her home, showing up in the window of her hotel last night.” He arched a brow at the ridiculousness of the statement. “I’m assuming there’s more.” “A dead man in the swamp. Head bashed in, throat ripped.” Which grabbed his attention. “I want you to talk to them,” Larue said. “I told them that you’re a rougarou expert and that you’ll get to the bottom of things. They were out on some night ghost tour in the bayou and their boat came upon the dead man. Right now, she’s so hysterical that she’s not making sense. But you rougarouexperts are used to dealing with that.” He shook his head at Larue’s sarcasm. He was no more a rougarou expert than someone was a ghost expert. Once upon a time, he’d worked with Larue as partners in the NYPD. Before that, Quinn’s life had been anything but normal. He’d actually been a pretty horrible person, not as in deadly or criminal, but as in vain and egotistical. His prowess in sports had led to excess, which eventually led to him being declared legally dead. Which changed everything.

Progress by Amalie Silver!!!

Jesse
I admit, I didn’t think much of Charlie at first. She was rounder than the girls who usually caught my eye. Not my type. But when I saw her sitting in that booth alone, for the first time something in my mind or my instincts or my heart told me to join her.

She defied me.
She challenged me.
She gave me hope.
Before I knew it, moving forward was my only option.

Charlie
I couldn’t tell you when it happened, but it had to have been a gradual change; I never moved too quickly.

If someone would have told me earlier that year what I was going to go through, I wouldn't have believed them.

Jesse was so different from anyone I’d met before. And everyone I’ve met since. He sucked all the life out of me, in the best—and worst—ways.

We don’t get strong overnight. For most of us it takes time. Strength isn’t measured by how high and fast our walls go up, but how easily we can watch them fall.

Darra's Review:

We have been seeking out books that have a new plot. That do not sound like so many other books we have read. I believe we found one that is unique on its own.
I have read Amalie before. This was absolutely opposite than what I read before.
Regarding both Charlie and Jesse, you will have strong feelings for both. I cannot say it is all sparkles and sunshine. There is raw emotions that Charlie feels about herself along with Jesse. I liked her mostly throughout the book. There were times I thought her reaction was unbelievable and she disregarded herself for too long. That may have disappointed me. Wishing she would stand up for herself and stop with the pity party in her head.
As for Jesse. Although there is reason for his reactions in situations, I cannot understand how he got away with how he treated others. Deep down he had the best intentions when it came to Charlie. However it gets to a point it is down right dreadful reading what he would do next. You will be conflicted with how to feel about Jesse. Especially at the end.
I was so disappointed with Charlie at the end. How did she become this way? I can only imagine how Jesse will react in the next book.

Despite how I make this book sound dreadful, it is not. Very interesting and read it quickly. A taste of Charlie's life that is new to me. A story that can be possible in the real world. It will give you a lump in your throat.

I would rate the book a 4.4. Worth the read if you can handle a emotional roller coaster.

Sunny's Review:

So Darra signed us up for this book and I had no idea what it was about before I started it. I never looked up the synopsis or anything. The first half of this book was very hard for me to read. I think basically everything Charlie thought and said about herself I have thought and said the same about myself. I really think that most people probably have too. So that part of the book is hard because who really wants to be reminded of the worst parts of themselves. Charlie has very low self esteem and there are some reasons that she talks about. I am not sure about her friends. I feel like they never really stood up for her growing up. There was one aspect of her childhood that she mentions but never really goes in depth. Jesse...I don't even know what to say about him. I could not get on board with him at all. I understand the issues he has. I understand he has had a jacked up life. I tried to be sympathetic with him but I just kept saying oh my gosh you are a jerk! I did feel like Amalie did a great job of showing his issues. I really felt the Whirl he was in and I felt the Grim. I still don't like him though.

These characters really are so destructive to each other and I totally understand why they keep coming back together. This could happen in real life very easily. I do want to know what happens in the next book.

I am giving this book 4.4 stars out of 5. It is very well written. I really wanted to yell at these characters and in my opinion that means the author did a great job making me feel. Go get this book and remember that you will possibly have to look at yourself.

The Mother Road by Meghan Quinn!!

THE MOTHER ROAD by Meghan Quinn
NA Romantic Comedy
Release date: January 12, 2016
Cover Designed by: Meghan Quinn

Blurb:

Never in a million years would I have pictured myself as an axe-wielding, dragon lady, chopping up multi-colored flannel shirts into my very own plaid mulch. But here I am, chopping away my frustrations.

It all started when my brother, Paul, convinced me to go on one last family road trip across the Mother Road with him and my dad.. Just like old times, right? Wrong. What Paul fails to mention is his best man, Porter, will be joining us, who just so happens to be my childhood crush and the man who broke my heart four years ago.

What is supposed to be a fun, family bonding experience across Route 66 turns into a war of pranks, awkward moments and bathrooms full of dirty flannel shirts and day old beard clippings. Paul’s know-it-all attitude and Porter’s devilish charm brings me to the brink of my sanity on my seven day trek across the United States with three bearded men in a small 1980’s RV.

Celebrity beauty secrets

The Mother Road is a standalone, new adult, romantic comedy that revolves around a girl named Marley, who goes on one last road trip with her dad and brother across Route 66 before her brother gets married. What they fail to mention to her is her brother’s best friend is joining them; her childhood crush and the boy who broke her heart four years ago. What is supposed to be a fun family road trip across the Mother Road turns into a trip full of sexual tension, pranks, and unfortunate reminiscing.
Since Marley is a beauty blogger living in Los Angeles, she is surrounded by celebrity beauty myths and secrets. In the book, she tests out some of these beauty secrets herself. Here are some of her suggestions:

Hey scaly bows, get some lotion!

Got some crust on those elbows? Don’t fret; it happens to the best of us. Lotion is a good quick solution but if you really want to break down the wall of shell-like skin, try wine! Warm up some water, drop some wine in it, and soak those elbows. They will be smooth as ever after you get them all boozed up!

No one likes a sludge head.

Product build up is the number one offender to poorly styled hair – not an actual fact. But, if you do have some product build-up, don’t worry, there is a way to vanish the sludge and gain some fresh follicles. Grab some beer! I would go for the cheaper stuff because your hair isn’t going to care if you’re treating it with a local microbrew. Pour it in a bowl, dip your entire head inside and then wrap your head in saran wrap to let it sit. After a quick rinse, you’re follicles will be singing you heavenly – albeit, somewhat drunk – praises.

Is that a freckle? Nope, it’s a blackhead.

Pesky little things, they have no right taking up residence on a lady’s face, but unfortunately they are the party crashers in the skin department. If you want to clear out those pores, take some baking soda and add it to some water or your moisturizer to form a paste – Ross Geller style. Apply to your face and let the paste sit for a bit before rinsing it off to find your skin fresher and clearer.

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if "It's Raining Men" starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing... enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Excerpt

When I wake in the morning there is no confusion about where I am or who I am cuddled up with. I knew the moment he whispered in my ears last night that I would wake up in his arms. Keegan's grip on me is tight, like he's afraid that I'll try to escape. The rise and fall of his chest against me is soothing. As I lie awake, I recall the events of last night. His sweet words were my downfall. You would think that since I am sure of his feelings, we could continue our fairy tale. I wish it were that easy, but it's not. Do we need more time? Is this time we have here together enough for me to forgive him? This is why I need girlfriends, ones I can run to when I need advice, girls I trust. There's Reese, but hello, she's practically part of the James family now. A fact that is still so surreal to me. Keegan is waking up. His breathing isn't as deep any longer, and his body is suddenly stiff, as if he's afraid to move and wake me. He nuzzles my neck and sighs. His grip on me tightens, and I consider pretending I'm asleep just to see how this whole spooning-and-the-morning–after thing plays out. Unfortunately, someone else is awake as well. "Busted." "Morning, Dad." "Morning, Rick." Keegan follows my greeting. My father is staring down at us, and I'm reminded of the times he caught Keegan in my room when we were younger. He's trying to be bothered by our sleeping arrangement, but he isn't really. "You know, there are perfectly comfortable beds upstairs for both of you to sleep in separately." He emphasizes the separate part. He walks out of the room, and we both let out the laughter we have been holding in. "I hope you slept comfortably," Keegan says. Surprisingly, I don't even remember being uncomfortable, or waking. Which proves the kind of effect his touch has on me. It's like a drug; if they could bottle it up I'd be addicted. "Actually, I was in someone's death grip all night." I smile. "I didn't hurt you, did I?" I can hear the concern in his voice. "Of course not, I'm just kidding." I almost make the mistake of telling him it felt nice, and beg him to not let go. Thankfully my brain takes over, and I don't. I sit up and put both my feet on the floor. I smile at him, noticing that he hasn't shaved in a couple days. I've never seen him with stubble before, and I have to look away, imagining what it would feel like across my skin. "I'm going to start coffee and make breakfast," I tell him as I remove myself from our cozy shelter. We both know that last night's sleeping arrangements aren't permanent. No matter how good it felt to be in his arms.

Sunny's Review Restoration & Forgiveness:

You have to read Skyscrapers and Camelot before you read Restoration and Forgiveness. You will be lost and not really understand the issues in the book without reading in order. You can see my review of Skyscrapers and Camelot below.

Restoration and Forgiveness is pretty good. It was a very quick and easy read for me. You see Aimee going home to her father because he has had a heart attack. She just got flattened once again by Gretchen. I want to love Keegan. I mean for all intents and purposes he should be amazingly perfect but I really don't like his total obliviousness to Gretchen's pure hatred of Aimee. Once Keegan is with Aimee at her father's house and so attentive and basically perfect it actually makes me dislike him a little more.

Aimee finally seems to start realizing that she needs to stand up for herself. I would probably do most of the things that she does in this book. She basically tells Keegan that they can pretend life is great in front of her dad but otherwise stay away from her. I will give it to Keegan that he is attentive and caring and you do know that he totally loves Aimee. He truly at the end of the day I think just a typical guy in the Gretchen area.

I do have to say that I love Kaleb and Reece in this book. Kaleb would be the absolute best guy friend in the world and Reece is a great friend too. They are both there for Keegan and Aimee and you have to love the dynamic of all four of them together. There is one area that I absolutely hate in this book and I hate it in all books. Most people don't have an issue with it so I don't take this into consideration when I rate a book.

I think most people will love this book. I am giving it 4.3 stars out of 5. It is sweet and even though I hate Keegan a little bit I love him too.

Sunny's Review Skyscrapers & Camelot:

I read this book very quickly. It is a good story. I love the best friends from childhood story. It is so sweet and you just have to sigh when you get those stories. Keegan and Aimee meet when they are 6 and 7. Keegan decides from the moment they meet that he is going to take care of Aimee forever. They lose touch when he leaves for college and you know that Aimee is heartbroken. They finally meet again as adults and it is a pretty funny meeting. You will have to read it to see why I thought it was a little funny. Keegan seems a little standoffish and I can't figure out at first what he is really thinking. After a little bit you start to see Keegan's feelings and get to know a little bit more about him as an adult. I wanted to love him but he let's his assistant, Gretchen, run all over Aimee and just be horrible to her. Aimee is annoying in that she does not stand up to Keegan about Gretchen. There are a couple of times I just wanted to cuss Keegan and Gretchen out in this book.

I loved getting to meet Kaleb, Keegan's brother. He is funny and goofy and really I would love to have him as a friend. Reece is Aimee's roommate and best friend from college. She is a very strong character and stands up for Aimee. I love them both.

I really like this book and I think that most people will enjoy it. I am giving it 4.4 stars out of 5 and think you should go get it!!

Dark Bishop Anniversary and & Review

Dark Bishop
By Casey L Bond and Rachael Brownell
Dark Bishop

"He's never lost a game..."
It's dual perspective so you get to live what each of the main characters live.
It's different than anything either of us has written so far. It's dark and twisted, in a good way, and will keep you guessing at every turn.

Darra's Review:

I am going to start this by saying the ending of this this book is mouth dropping. It will be everlasting in my brain. In the top 3 most memorable endings.
There are very few words that explain how sinister Jake is. You will be confused with the emotions that you will feel about Jake. Most of the time I thought he one of the worst creatures that walk the face of the earth. Then you have moments that I began to believe he had good intentions for Sydney. However those thoughts were drowned very quickly with the next scenes.
My only issue with Sydney is she has those young, innocent girl feelings that she thinks the best of everyone. Why did she not question why he was gone every weekend. Or that Sydney was afraid of asking about his work. Even at that age I can't imagine being that naïve.

Without a doubt I will never forget Jake. He made me gasp in horror. Top 3 most  terrifying  characters I have read.

I would rate the book a 4.6. Amazing and you will not believe the conclusion to this story. Mindboggling.

Sunny's Review:

OMG, this book! I was not sure what this book was going to be about but I was getting a little bored with some of the super sweet romances so I thought I would give this a try. WOW! This is definitely not your sweet romance! I was blown away by Jake Bishop. He is so freaking disturbing that I am now a little scared to date anyone. I mean talk about some freaky scary stuff. He takes crazy psycho to whole new level. Sydney is your typical young pretty small town girl. I can totally see why she fell for Jake and why she did some of the things she did. I was pretty annoyed with her in some parts but then I had to remind myself that she is young and had never had to deal with anything like Jake growing up. She came from a small town in the south and it is pretty standard she would not question Jake over a lot of things. I do think that she probably should have clued in a little quicker  but when you are in love you are blind.

If you like dark and twisted this is definitely the book for you! I loved it because it was so crazy. There were a couple of parts in the book that made me just stop and have to walk away. This is definitely a book that will stay with me for a long, long time! I am giving it 4.7 stars out of 5. You need to go get this and just be prepared to have your mind blown!

Excerpt

Sydney. Her skin felt as soft as it looked. I shouldn’t have touched her, but I couldn’t help myself. I’ve been to New Orleans dozens upon dozens of times. It’s a unique city, filled with tourists and superstition. And until tonight, I’d never been superstitious.
An old fortuneteller freak stopped me on my way to the shit-hole diner and said I would make a decision that would change my path. She didn’t know that I’d walked the path to this very restaurant before. It had been a few years.
Who knew that the decision to return would be blessed with a beauty—five foot six with curves in all the right mouth-watering places. Clothed in cheap polyester, stained with God knows what, Sydney was a fucking vision.
Blonde hair to her waist. Big brown doe eyes. Tits that were way more than a fucking mouth full. I could almost taste her.

I didn’t miss the rumble of her stomach when I asked her to dine with us. She was hungry. Something that flashed in those eyes told me it wasn’t because she just skipped lunch today. Maybe I could meet some of her needs. Fuck that. I could definitely meet all of her needs, but it was up to her to let me. So, I left her my business card, my number.

Girls like Sydney. They’re afraid. They never make the first move. Most never even make the second. I doubted she would call. I’d tipped her well, not because she was the best waitress I’d ever had, not even because she was within my sites. I tipped her so that when I came back to the diner, she would remember me. She would want to serve me.
And, oh, would she ever serve me. I just had to play my cards right.
