In this sensational New Adult debut by Alex Rosa, boyfriends are too much trouble. So what’s the harm in a little fun?

With an abusive relationship behind her, Skyler moves out of her Orange County apartment, changes her phone number, cuts ties with her friends, and moves in with her brother Josh, a talent agent with a spare room in his incredible house in Hollywood.

Josh is happy to take Skyler under his wing, but he has one rule: she can’t sleep with his roommate, Blake. That’s fine by Skyler. She doesn’t want a man in her life right now—and certainly not cocky Blake who’s with a different girl every night. But his all-American boy charm and his ripped model physique are difficult to refuse. Josh will never know if no one ever tells him. And a little secret now and then never hurt anyone…

I get the sinking feeling that Blake is having a hard time keeping his hands off me as he places them back on my hips, tugging me close so that we’re flush against each other. He forces my hips to move to the beat with his. The contact is shocking as electricity shoots down my spine with the length of his body pressed against me.
I have to suppress my groan at the feeling it elicits. My blood feels as if it’s on fire, and at this point, I cannot tell if it is alcohol induced or Blake induced.

Trying to regain my equilibrium, I say, “I thought you weren’t showing.” My tone is breathier than I would like, but loud enough for him to hear.

Continuing with gyrating his hips against mine, he grabs for each of my hands and places them around his neck. I don’t protest. I realize that this feels like I’m breaking the rules already, but it doesn’t mean I stop him.

The music is so loud that he leans in close, and his humid breath against my ear has me letting out an unrestrained sigh.

“I was working. I’m surprised Josh didn’t mention it.”

I am quick to quip, “I didn’t ask.”

He pulls away, and wrinkles his nose as I shoot him a glare.

“I’d tell you how amazing you look, but I don’t want to fuel your ego any more than it already has been.”

My brows furrow at the comment. He’s not winning with me tonight.

“Don’t act like you know anything about my ego. It’s bruised and broken, if you must know.” My honesty startles me, but before I have time to scold myself, he pulls my body harder against his, and I’m suddenly hyperaware of each muscly sinew of his abdomen.

“Well then, fine. I’ll let you know that I think you look. . . . incredible.

I purse my lips, and he laughs.

To my disappointment, he takes a deliberate step back, breaking our contact.

“Now tell me how I look.”

I cover my mouth to stifle my laughter. “Oh, so you’re funny now?”

With a goading expression, he places his hands dramatically on his hips. “Now, Skyler, don’t act like you know anything about my sense of humor . . .” He mirrors my previous tone.

I realize I deserve that, and give him a once-over. The liquid courage I devoured earlier gives me the confidence to appraise him openly, and dammit, the bastard looks good.

His lean, toned physique is decked out in gray pants that hang hypnotically on his hips, and he wears a matching vest, with a white dress shirt underneath that hugs his chest. His sleeves are rolled up to his elbows, revealing strong forearms, and his brown hair is slicked back. What tops off the ensemble, though, is his bright red bowtie. Even in that outfit, I can tell there is nothing but wonderful muscle underneath that hipster vest. I’ve seen it.

I wave my hand in an exaggerated manner. “Dashing as ever, good sir.”
He nods and moves in to bring me closer while letting out a rewarding laugh. I place my hands back around his neck with ease.

His eyes glitter in the dim room, and his hands skim over the bare skin of my back. “Why thank you, Skyler. Another compliment from you? Who would have thought.”

I make the mistake of shooting my eyes to his lips, and I watch them slink upward, as if he’s noticed.

I recover from my mistake, bringing my eyes back to his, and I shake my head.

“How am I supposed to keep away when you’re such a tempting morsel?”

The statement shocks me, and my face heats. Although buzzed, my mind tells me to check myself. I step away from his grasp as a precaution. “You aren’t allowed to say things like that.”

A wicked curve appears on his lips. “No, you’re wrong. I’m allowed to say whatever I want. What I’m not allowed to do is what I want.”

The statement is staggering, and I take in a deep breath, wondering what the correct plan of action is.

“I think I need another drink.”
When Alex Rosa isn’t scouring city parks or cafes to write, she is most likely trying to convince her friends to join her on her next adventure. A sufferer of wanderlust, she is always looking for a new mountain to climb, a canyon to hike, or a plane to board. Her résumé consists of coroner, zoo worker, and most recently executive assistant, but she finds her home amongst words, whether it is in books or in film. Her obsessions are on the brink of bizarre, but that’s just the way she likes it.

Darra's Review:

We have read many books about a hot football player that all the girls trip all over. Josh just so happens to be one. However he was much more interesting than others I have read. Jane Devreaux hit it on target when she explained in detail how high school kids are horndogs. Yes, I know there are a few virgins. Which so happen to turn up in 85% of books. However reading about a kid with a boner the majority of the book made me laugh my ass off.
There was a background to Sandre that you have to wait till the end to finally know her real story. Which only makes me read the book faster. I am impatient. Forget dinner, I have a book! Usually you see there is a façade behind each character that is not considered  as the popular norm. Sandre is exactly that.

I am glad the book was translated into English because I truly enjoyed the story. This is a WTF ending and now will be sending emails to the author demanding the 2nd book to be translated immediately. Will, the nerd's Dad?!!

I rate the book a 4.4.

Sunny's Review:

I am seriously surprised that I liked this book. There are so many things that I don't really like in stories in this one but for some reason it all worked for me. Normally Sandre would not be a character I like. She was an outcast at her school and kept to herself. She is artsy and really smart. Josh was interesting. I really wanted to hate him but at the end of the day he was just a typical high school boy. I could not stand Marcy. I 100% condone everything that is done to her.

Once you read the book I feel like you will all be very surprised by the last sentence. Anyways, Sandre was really funny once you got past the anger. Josh was actually pretty entertaining too. There is a lot going on and I can't tell you how glad I am that I read this book. The next book is being translated and I can't wait for it.

I am going to give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I am going higher because Jane made me like a book I swore I would never like. Go get it!!!

Darra's Review:

I loved Pure Punishment by T.L Smith. So I was excited to read the latest from her. I was not disappointed in the least. Completely different story, however loved it all the way through. Never lost interest and had to finish reading the same day. Put everything aside to read this book. Forget cooking, this book is way better! I may be a bit biased, but I love me some Australian authors. I cannot tell you a good reason why except that they must have some Bad ass reading rainbow that is missing in parts of the U.S.

Apart from that, loved the characters. Christina is awesome. Witty, unique and is bad ass. Totally feel for her about those damn blonde hair, blue eye chicks that always got the guys. Especially the best guy friend she has been crushing on. Tanner was sweet and right off the bat I wanted something to happen with those two.
Kyrone...oh Kyrone. He grew on me like a fungus(this sounds gross, but I mean it was a surprise and you can't stop it from growing more). Absolutely thought he was a jackass but that seemed to be the reason I loved him more and more with each page. Funny, ridiculous and just crazy loveable. I would say hit did not fit the mold of the usual frat boy. Take that back, he absolutely did. But all I could do is root for him. So sweet with such a filthy mind. Somehow those two qualities worked.

This book is a reread. It makes me smile when I think about parts of the book. A book that I read last week! Worth every penny. Go buy it!

My rating is a 4.5. Much love to T. L. Smith!

Synopsis

Nancy Kerr refuses to be a victim—even when she walks in on her parents’ killers and is raped and left for dead…
Fourteen months later, Nancy wakes up in a psychiatric hospital with no knowledge of how she got there.
Slowly, her memory starts to return.
Released from the institution, she has just one thing on her mind—two men brought hell to her family home.
Now they’re in for some hell of their own…
Excerpt
An extract from Hell To Pay (Crime Files Book 1) She took a few more steps into the living room and walked straight into hell… Chapter 1 I’m cold, colder than I’ve ever been in my entire life and I don’t know why. Slowly, I open my eyes, tentatively at first because even opening them a fraction feels like someone's shoving red-hot pins into them. The light is so bright. What’s with the light anyway? Has Michael wandered in, blootered on some poncy new beer and left the light on, after collapsing in a heap onto the bed? I’ll brain him if he has. I’m no good to anyone when I don’t get my eight hours. Pulling myself up in bed, I reach out my arm to nudge him awake so I can give him a right mouthful. My hand finds empty space. Where is he? My eyes sting as I prise them open – it’s as though there's been an accident with false lashes and I've glued my eyelashes together - and that’s when I realise I’m not in our flat. The reason I’m freezing is because I’m wearing a tracing paper thin hospital gown: the kind that shows off your backside when you’re being whisked off to x-ray. A tidal wave of panic hits me and I jerk into full consciousness. What’s happened to me? I try to remember, but my brain’s all bunged up as if the top of my head's been removed and the cavity filled with cotton wool. My arms are bandaged up. Have I been in an accident? If I have, I don’t remember. Maybe I hit my head. I take in my surroundings. If I’m in hospital, it’s no ordinary one. For one thing, my room’s more like a cell. There’s a bed and a table bolted to the floor, but no personal stuff: photos, or cards, or stuffed animals from people wishing me well. Does anyone even know I’m here? I grope for a call button to get a nurse, but there isn’t one. What the hell? This place is a prison. Staggering out of bed, I fight the wave of nausea and dizziness that make me want to yell at the world to stop moving because I want to get off the carousel. The tile floor is stone cold and there are no slippers by the bed. My feet are ice blocks. Why don’t I have any socks or tights on? Before I reach the door, there's a jingle of keys, then a key scrapes in the lock. Holding my breath, I brace myself for what’s coming. A woman I don’t recognize with brown hair tied back in a ponytail appears. She’s dressed in a nurse’s uniform and there’s a small smile playing on the edge of her lips. "Good, you’re awake, Nancy." She sounds pleased, as if we’re bosom buddies, when I’ve never seen her before in my life. "Where am I?" My voice comes out as a rasp as though my throat’s been sandpapered down. The nurse puts a hand on my shoulder. "Let’s get you back into bed, Nancy." I do as she says. I’m worried if I don’t lie back, I’ll faint. "You’re in Parkview Hospital," she says, as she fixes the pillows so I can sit upright. I know all the hospitals in Glasgow, but I haven’t heard of that one. I ask her what kind of hospital it is and she tells me it’s a psychiatric facility. The reason I haven’t heard of it, is because they don’t publicize it. Perhaps because it’s full of nutters they want to keep away from society. The prospect terrifies me because that would mean they must think I’m cuckoo. Why else would I be here? I suck in my breath. When I ask her if this is a nut house, she presses her lips tightly together as she tells me no one refers to psychiatric hospitals in that way any more. Suitably chastised, I mumble an apology not because I think one’s needed, but because she’s the one with the keys. "Why am I here?" I’m dreading the answer, but I need to know. I don’t feel any different. Surely if I’d lost my mind, I'd know. "You had a breakdown." The way she says it, she could be talking about the weather. She asks me if I want anything and I tell her a pair of proper pajamas, a dressing gown and slippers would be nice because I’m an ice block. If she gets in touch with Mum, she’ll bring me in some stuff. Her smile’s still there, but breaks down around the corners of her mouth. There’s something she’s not telling me, because she’s worried how I’ll react. There’s fear in her eyes. I notice she’s wearing a lucky heather brooch, the same one I got for Mum. I’m staring at it as she tells me she’s going to fetch a doctor, when a memory stirs inside me and no matter how hard I try to push it away, someone’s taken their finger out the dyke and the water’s rushing in. Blood, blood everywhere. Dad’s slumped in his favorite armchair, head bent forward as if in prayer (he never prayed a day in his life); a single bullet hole in his head. I know it’s him, even although his face has been beaten to a pulp: his blood staining the fireside rug my mum was so fond of. Even in death, my dad has a presence. He fills a room with the sheer weight of his personality. Discarded nearby is the baseball bat they used on him. It’s covered in blood and something sticky and dark brown, resembling raw mince.
